Heroes of Might and Magic series, Assassin's Creed, Rayman Origins, FarCry 1 and 2, modern Prince of Persia games, and many more unforgettable Ubisoft titles 60% off

Welcome to our unbelievable [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/ubisoft_weekend_promo_020514]Unbelievably Ubi promo, celebrating one of the most unique modern game publishers: Ubisoft, famous for releasing original titles, full of pure gaming magic and memorable moments. This weekend you can get more than 40 Ubisoft titles 60% off. Amazing action-adventures in the ancient or medieval Middle East or dystopian future, first-person perspective shooters telling the stories of secret agents or special forces operatives stranded on dangerous islands, strategies set in fantastic lands, the distant future, or our very own mundane reality, colorful platformers, racing games, classic dungeon-crawling RPGs--all this and more waiting for you and tempting you with low, low prices. Let's put some titles in the spotlight, shall we?

Heroes of Might and Magic is a game series so prominent, that it surely needs no introduction. In fantasy turn-based strategies it's quite hard to find a match for this legendary saga that challenges our strategic and management skills since the year 1996. Based on the successful setting of the fan-favorite classic cRPG, Might and Magic, it achieved a great balance between accessibility and complexity that resonates perfectly with gamers. After all these years Heroes of Might and Magic 3: Complete Edition is still considered by many to be the perfect turn-based strategy title. Some fans, however, prefer the more modern Heroes of Might and Magic 5: Bundle, that takes the beloved mechanics into the beautiful realm of 3D graphics. That's only two titles, though. All of our Might and Magic games, strategy and RPG alike, can be found 60% off in the promo page.

is an iconic character and his platformer games entertained generations of gamers. As many other platformer series, his adventures also took a turn into the realm of 3D. They were quite successful at that, mind you, but there's something about the run-and-jump genre, that simply makes it work best in two dimensions. [url=http://www.gog.com/game/rayman_origins]Rayman Origins takes us back to the 2D roots of platformer gaming, and reminds us why this kind of graphics and this kind of gameplay is a perfect match. Plus, it introduces a lot of fresh ideas while doing so.

Far Cry and Far Cry 2: Fortune's Edition will take you on a dangerous voyage through breathtaking locations filled to the brim with dangerous foes and ruthless beasts. The first one released 10 years ago, those elaborate FPS titles were deemed revolutionary--not only in the graphics layer, but also for their huge open worlds allowing for semi-sandbox gameplay. Are you ready to face the tropical heat?

All of those Ubisoft games, and many more, can be yours for 60% off this weekend. Go to the Unbelievably Ubi to check out the details of this Unbelievably Ubi sale. The offer ends on Tuesday, May 6 at 3:59AM GMT. Don't miss out!
Wait - does Rainbow Six include the 'Eagle Watch' extra missions pack? I don't see it mentioned on the gamecard, and its not called 'Gold Pack Edition' like my retail version either..

Edit:

I guess not!
That's a little disappointing!

Got Battle Isle Platinum to gift and the two Warlords Battlecry for myself. I hope WB 1 and 2 as fun and interesting as they seem by their descriptions.

Get both Imperialism games if you like turn based strategy.. They are different enough to play both. These games are in my top 5 ever. And no nostalgia here, I only found them like 10 years after release.

foxworks: I think I'll snag: Splinter Cell, Silent Hunter 2, and Driver. Oh, okay, maybe Battle Isle too! XD
avatar
IAmSinistar: So, did you go for Battle Isle?
Denied! Due to technical issues. Will try again if it doesn't go through. But yes, I will be getting both Battle Isle titles. :)

EDIT: Went through as they're sitting nice and neatly on my shelf!

Alexrd: Rayman 2 and Origins are certainly worth buying.
avatar
mistermumbles: I'd say skip straight to Origins. [..]

Grargar: Do you like 3D platformers or not? If yes, then Rayman 2 is very nice.
I usually prefer platformers with a quite linear structure, as trial&error exploration is not the best for me.
Rayman1 secrets and powers were quite intersting though.
From your comments, I think I'll try 2 and wishlist Origins, thanks. (+1)

Ghorpm: [..]Check out those posts:[..]
And if you have any further questions feel free to ask :)
Yeah, I left my post window open for a while, so I missed a bunch of discussions.
I'm still uncertain about the other games, however. (maybe Imp2 and WB2?)
P.s: Warcraft3 was released in those years..

LinustheBold: Question about Settlers 2: which is the better step, Gold or 10th Anniversary? I may try to sit this one out, but there's an awful lot of tempting stuff dangling off of that there GOG tree.
I'd go with the original one first. Game mechanics is almost identical, they pretty much differ in graphics only. But the 1996 version has more Settlers aura than any other part of the series :) I fell in love with this game over 15 years ago and I can say that this game hasn't aged at all.

Good deal! Because if you didn't buy them, you were going to get them anyway. :)

I added in Rayman Origins after Licurg clued me into it and I saw how good it looked. The stellar reviews helped sell it too.

Well thank you for thinking of me! Turns out I was missing Rayman 2 and 3. Gah! I scooped those up too. I can't leave a set incomplete.

Oh, I installed Little Big Adventure back in March, but didn't get much further. I bet I can squeeze some time in this weekend. I think I'll need to take a holiday soon so I can make a dent in my backlog. :D

It seems that Settlers I and II were the most popular of the series. I think I'll settle on II. Does the 10th Ann. edition come with the Mission CD expansion like the Gold edition?
Seeing all these Blue Byte titles just makes the lack of Albion amongst them all the more stark I really hope its lack of digital release doesn't mean the source has been lost or something.

LBA is a wonderful story, and beautifully rendered, but the control scheme definitely harkens back to the day when everyone wrote their games differently, and it can be clunky to modern players. It's worth persevering with, but even an ardent fan of the game like myself can end up cursing at it. :)

I think I need to be reincarnated a couple times to get through my backlog now. Thankfully I derive pleasure from the simple act of having them. :D
If only Ubisoft would release some newer stuff..., it's been a while since they've released something not so old like Far Cry 2, AC 1, Rayman Origins.

What about Dark Messiah, Assassin's Creed 2, Splinter Cell series, Call of Juarez, Anno, Driver: San Francisco, From Dust, Trackmania, please?
Do any of the turn based games have a multiplayer mode where each player can take their own turn at any time of the day, week or month if need be?

P.s: Warcraft3 was released in those years..
What I absolutely love about Warlords Battlecry series is your hero development. Believe me, there are good RPGs that have less options than WBC. You can make so many different choices how to build your hero and let me assure you that those choices are really meaningful (while for example in Warcraft 3 you can only choose in which order you want to upgrade specific skills, you'll eventually get all of them anyway). I'll give you a short summary based on WBC 2 because I've played it quite recently.

At the beginning you can only choose race of your hero (12 possibilities!) and his/her name (you can't choose gender though, it depends on the race you've chosen). At level 2 you choose a profession (warrior, rogue, priest, wizard) and at level 3 you choose a speciality (4, 4, 5, 7 possible choices for each profession, respectively). Not every profession/speciality is available for each race but even at that point you see that there are a lot of possibilities.

There are four statistics (strength, dexterity, intelligence, charisma) and ten skills (combat, health, speed, command, morale, magery, resistance, training, conversion, merchant) and they depend on statistics (for example your basic combat = 2 * str while training = str + int). Starting from level 4 you gain Ability Points and you can spend them to enhance your hero. It takes a LOT of APs to increase any statistic but they affect several skills at the same time. Skills are obviously much cheaper and you can upgrade them individually.

Wait, that's not everything! Each race and speciality have a few special abilities (3 and 4, respectively) that you can learn (paying with APs). Some of them are skills allowing you to cast spells from specific spheres of magic but there are others, some influence your skills, other give you a bonus for production a specific kind of unit (e.g. cavalry) or give you a chance to kill an enemy with one hit (just a few examples)

One top of that there are ten different spheres of magic with 10 different spells in each of them + 3 common spells. Obviously you have to spend APs to learn them. Most specialities of wizard and priest are closely related to one of those spheres but you can become an archmage and gain some abilities in each of them. What's even better - it's not that you have to become a spellcaster to cast spells! For example any Wood Elf hero can get Druidic Magic as a special ability that gives her +5 points for casting Nature spells. So you can choose her to be a warrior and then a fighter (speciality) but you will have some spells like entangle at your disposal.

OK, I've already smashed you with a wall of text and frankly, I think it's just a tip of an iceberg. But I'm sure you already got a feeling how awesome this aspect of the game is! And don't worry, it may seem very complicated at the beginning but the progress of your hero is rather slow so you'll have more then enough time to learn about everything, step by step. And what's also very important – you can't really screw it up beyond repair - even if your hero is not optimally built it's RTS game after all, heroes alone cannot win a fight, you will relay on your troops anyway.

Sounds like my kind of game ;)
