DodoGeo: Might I inquire why the scores on Heroes of Annihilated Empires are so low?

It looks really good and without any quality RTS games it looks really tempting, so why has it a 65% average on game ratings?

What's wrong with it and was it fixed?
Looks like here on GOG it has 4 out of 5 stars, which would be 80%. I did pick it up, because it looks like the type of game I would enjoy as well. Haven't dlld it yet and fired it up, but after reading the reviews here on GOG, it seems most people's complaint is that the the overall story seems to be just beginning as the game ends. As it seems the game was planned to originally been the first in a possible trilogy that never happened. Some found that disappointing, and may have down-graded for that. Just speculation on my part, as apparently the GOG version here seems to play well with modern systems, and versions of the game from other sources...not so much. Maybe some others who have put some time into the game can shed more light on it for you. For 5 smackeroos, I am giving it a shot :^)
Are the first three games on that list anygood ? My fav RTS game used to be Megalomaniac but always wanted to try others.
Wow, a promo where I don't own a single game yet? That's a first.

I had all 3 on my wishlist, and picked them up, since at these prices they are worth a shot. Checked youtubes of them, and they piqued my interest...take a look at a few, and decide if you wanna take the plunge as well ;)
Good thinking, Batman. I always forget to use Youtube to check gameplay.

Thanks for the replay, do update on this if you get to play it over the weekend.

I hate when people can't get off the fence! Check your pm, and YOU tell me what it's like over the weekend. I won't be around this weekend, but I expect a report on if it's any good!
Enjoy! :-)

YW :) ....and remember...."Destroy Them!"
This is a great promo. Especially so since many of these games have never been on sale because they're newer additions to GOG's catalog.

To hold up my part, here are my thoughts on Heroes of Annihilated Empires:

First thing that catches your eye are the visuals, the game looks really great. It's an interesting combination of 2D sprites on a full 3D terrain, it reminded me of Myth.

The gameplay varies, at one point it does play like Myth only on a larger scale with a Hero unit making these missions more like an RPG (full with mini-quests, items and so on...).
The other part are missions where there's base building and here it is like Cossacks, large amounts of units with that brutal counter system where you can take down a force 20 times bigger if you have the right combination of units.

Some other stuff to note are the between missions cinematics that are a read comic book, even the characters in the game have comic book floats for text.
I won't spoil anything, but there's some heavy hints early on that there's some heavy sci-fi in the game.

The most negative aspect of the game seems to be fixed as I haven't encountered any bugs or problems with the game.

All in all it looks really promising, at least it's unique in what it is trying to do and how it's doing it.
Only thing I have to find out yet is if there is an Undead campaign as I'd love to stomp some elves. That would elevate it from good to great :D
I don't remember when was the last time I saw a GOG promo where I don't have any of the games, at least from GOG.

Then again, only the Annihilated Empires seems interesting to me, so I think I'll get that. Cossacks and American Conquests I already have from DotEmu (and Cossacks also on retail, by accident), otherwise I would have gotten them from here too.

Superfrogs, Worms and some arcade racer with VGA graphics doesn't interest me enough, I guess.
Very good promo. Finally got Superfrog and two other games. Now i just need to find time to play.

Hey, thanks for getting back to me on the game. Sounds great...I spent MANY an hour playing MYTH on an old Win98 machine way back when, and still think of all the fun I used to have with it. If GOG ever gets it here, it's an instabuy for me. Sounds like I will be moving HoAE up to the top on my playlist, after I finish a couple I am working on now. Glad you're enjoying it, and sounds like I will be too. Definitely a good investment made for a couple of GOGers. Take care brother :)
Cossacks & American Conquest! Those are great deals. I own both games on retail boxed versions and they are really fun to play. Don't miss them if you love classic, historicaly detailed RTS.

This time, I'll go for Heroes of Anihilated Empires. I've always wanted to play it.

Cheers!
