Is anyone up to speed on the status of Wayland and how it is being integrated into the various desktops? Does it deliver on the promise of eliminating tearing? What would you suggest as your preferred desktop with zero tearing?
Tearing on Linux drives me nuts! I found upgrading from 2GB to 4GB helped quite a bit on a system with integrated graphics, but it still happens way too much...
Cinnamon is really nice and I would continue using it, but I believe the developer is playing the waiting game and it could still be a very long time before they integrate Wayland or an alternative.
MATE does have a roadmap for integrating Wayland, but the last time I looked at MATE it felt too dated.
GNOME 3 was a total disgrace at launch, although I read a few comments that it's now possible to modify it to make it work closer to how a desktop should be, but it sounds like potentially a lot of work and hassle to get it 'just right.'
KDE works for a lot of people, I don't like it as I find it's extremely slow and hamstrung with counter intuitive details that can't be tweaked.
Canonical / Ubuntu is still going to use MIR, despite the rest of the world telling them to shove it?
