Actually, I think the anti-piracy adds they forcefeed you on every DVD promotes it even more, at least in case of movies. It's like equating killing in game to murder.
I'm pretty sure game and music piracy would skyrocket if they forced you to listen to that crap when you insert a music cd, played mp3 file you bought or watch similar unskippable movie when ever you start a game.

I have strange a compulsion to pirate DVDs everytime I see those things. I am thinking of the "you would't steal a car'" series. Thankfully my self-control was up to the task of fighting down the evil tendencies is unknownly encourages.
DRM gotchas cause more of a rational tendency to want to pirate; I have been able to resist those as well.

They certainly aren't doing a whole lot to convince me to pay up for a Blu-ray drive to install into my flagship desktop-especially when NONE OF MY DISPLAYS HAVE HDMI OR EVEN DVI INPUTS.
That's right, every HD-capable display I have uses either component or VGA.
Who the hell do they think they are to deny me the ability to use perfectly good equipment to its fullest potential? Do they want to sell me a new HDTV/monitor with HDMI ports on top of that? If so, that's not a very good way to do it.

They've been talking about closing the analogue hole for years now and even then it was irrelevant. Who spends 90 minutes taping a movie through a complicated arrangement of cables and systems when they can spend 10 minutes using an app like DVD shrink?

I like BD to a point. DVDs are still far cheaper and HD is overrated for films... and yes, I mean it.
