michaelleung: No. EA's had their own original Bond games.

trusteft: Really? Do you remember any? I am only aware those based on movies and I would love to see more JB games, especially if I am not aware of them yet!
There are plenty. Nightfire, Everything or Nothing, Rogue Agent (I guess), Agent Under Fire.

eh, so, all these games are for the NES or something? I have never heard of them apart from the new version of GoldenEye for the Wii, which I would guess it is based on the movie with the same name?

No, those games were pretty recent, they were on the PC, Xbox, PS2 and GameCube. You haven't heard of them? They're really good.
So are the Bond games more profitable now than the Bond movies?

It was more of an uncertainty with MGM. They had some serious financial troubles, and last I heard were filing for bankruptcy, and since they were seem to be own the Movie rights, it is doubtful that one will be made in the immediate future. This may chance once MGM files and comes back from bankruptcy, or if it sells the Bond rights, so it isn't really them being "not profitable" as much as it is them not actually having the money to begin with.

Currently I am still irked with MGM over the Stargate issues, but I guess that is for another thread or topic, lol.
Pretty sure that EON Productions are the sole owner of the Bond IP, MGM are just the traditional production partners since they've been in bed together since the beginning. If MGM go down the tubes, EON could just work with someone else

MGM owns the film rights to the Bond Series, and it has since 1981, when it purchased United Artists Corporation. EON Productions, well its holding company, Danjaq LLC owns the trademarks and copyrights. I believe both UA Corp and Danjaq LLC had the trademarks and copyrights, and MGM may have partial ownership of that as well (from when it purchased UA. EON is the production company for the movies, but without MGM, their hands are tied because they can't just go somewhere else.

It is kind of like the situation with Marvel Comics vs. Sony & FOX. Marvel owns the rights to Spider-Man and the X-Men (Wolverine), but Sony (Spiderman) and FOX (Wolverine) own the film rights. Basically, Marvel is screwed when it comes to trying to make a future movie with either of those two brands. Technically it is Disney now, seeings Disney bought Marvel last year, but still, a very similar situation.
