I'm pretty sure this is an isolated case and my actions probably have something to do with the issue I'm having, but I can't seem to figure out what keeps going wrong. My problem is this:

I have different kind of games on my computer. There are steam games, games I bought on GoG, retail games et cetera. There seems to be a problem with the GoG games I've bought however, as my savefiles keep getting deleted/corrupted at random moments with every single game I've bought from GoG.

It happened with Beyond good & Evil, Planescape, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 and more. I have absolutely no trouble with any other game I've purchased outside of GoG, but every game I've bought here keeps removing my savefiles, making it ridiculously frustrating for me to actually finish the games I've bought.

I really can't think of any reason why this is happening (I'm the only one who uses this computer), which is why I've come to this place. Anyone have any idea why this may be happening to me all time time?

I recall someone else had that problem. If i recall correctly, they solved it by re-installing the game as admin and running it as admin.

EDIT: Also, do not install them in "Program Files".

And you should try to install them in another folder than the preset one.
Maybe because of most GOG save game stored in VirtualStore folder (if you install the game into default directory on Vista or 7), you need to run the game in admin mode.
So basically these two

All right, I'll try always running them as admin (used to execute the file through steam, but I'll refrain from doing so) and if that doesn't work, I'll re-install them somewhere else. Although I'm not sure where my save files would end up then. Thank you all.
You can also open up privileges on C:\Program Files\GOG.com thus eliminating the need to run as admin.for all GOG games.
Wait a minute...Now that I think about it, something doesn't sound right. Even if this issue was because of administrative rights, wouldn't that merely prevent me from saving my files, instead of actually deleting all of them?

you say 2 things they get corrupted and that they are disappearing. so both?

in case if you do system restores then in most cases you can lose your savegames (up till from where you restored it)
I didn't know whether they got corrupted or deleted at first, as I didn't know where the save files were, but they appear to have disappeared. I haven't done any system restores as I have never had the need to do so.

So yeah, sorry about that. They're just gone.

If you try to save as a non-admin account to Program Files, the file will instead be saved in VirtualStore\Program Files, and depending on the program you run, you may or may not be able to read them from the VirtualStore directory.
Once you run it as administrator though, the VirtualStore folder is completely ignored, so any files that are there will not be read, but the ones in Program Files (if any) will be used instead. Should you run it as a non-admin user again, the VirtualStore files should reappear.

That basically solved all of my problems, including the lost save files from other games. I don't know why it suddenly decided to run everything as admin as I always execute them from steam, but whatever. It's fixed now.

Thank you very much.
