Would i be right in thinking that a x32 can only slot one video card? I ask because i am unfamiliar with the PCI-E 2.0 X32 slots.

Yes, but obviously you can put other things in there, an x32 slot will take at most one card. OTOH, I can't think of anything else you would want to put in there unless it's a second slot.

EDIT: The x32 refers to the slot having 32 lanes and the card will use some number of those lanes depending upon the specifics of the hardware.

Granted, I'm not an expert, but I still don't understand the question. How on earth would you slot more than one graphics card into a single x32 slot? Using some sort of multi-dimensional screwdriver?

I suppose that theoretically somebody could invent a splitter as an x32 could be split into a couple of x16s or 32 x1s which could be useful for some applications, but that would require tons of room and custom hardware engineering.

Ah, did you mean "Would i be right in thinking that a x32 can only slot a video card"?

The answer is that it will take any PCIe card that you care to put into it. The worst thing would be plugging in a faster card as it wouldn't get the bandwidth it needed. Otherwise you're at worst wasting potential, it's designed to take any PCIe card that you want to stick in it, provided the case allows you to.

Every once in a while you might have trouble with a buggy chipset or insufficient power, but in general PCIe is really forgiving. They really got the engineering right incompatibilities are few and far between and they designed it in a way that allowed them to significantly increase the bandwidth over the years. It's a breathe of fresh air compared with some of the older standards that were changing quickly when I first got my computer.

I think I may still have an old ISA sound card lying around in a box somewhere. That slot was about 4,5 kilometers long :-D
My question would have been where on earth you found a motherboard with an X32 slot they aren't exactly common outside servers and even then they're rare...
