Good news for those of us who play games on the Mac - especially good for more mac indie titles!

The Unreal Engine 3 wasn't previously available for Mac development? Haven't UE3 games been out on iPhone for a year or more already?

Aye they ported it to iOS but they didn't port to OS X until now.

Huh? I was always under the impression that UE3 had been technically ported to the Mac for sometime now; after all, MacSoft's official announcement of UT3 and Epic's unofficial announcement of Gears for the Mac was a long, long time ago. The details are fuzzy in my head but I think I remember from looking over Ryan Gordon's .plan that the general problem was due to legal issues.

Yeah the article states that the first announcement that they would do so was over four years ago, but apparently now it's for real. :)
They used to be a LOT quicker at porting the Unreal Engines over, and that was before Apple switched to Intel processors. Well, at least they're finally getting it.
I hope this will lead to more better things for us Mac users. That's for sure.
Well, I have hope for good things coming down the pike, this is just a list of the games I'm excited about with regards to the Unreal Engine 3 Mac porting business (according to this):

America's Army 3.0
Alice: Madness Returns
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Batman: Arkham City
Borderlands (yeah it already got ported)
DC Universe Online (going F2P soon)
Gears of War 1/2/3
Global Agenda
Mass Effect 1/2/3
Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe (Mac port anyone?)
Mortal Kombat 9 (Mac port anyone??)
Rush'n Attack: Ex-Patriot
Singularity (See this Dan Amrich??? Tell Activision to start porting these games that use Unreal Engine 3!!)
Tom Clancy's EndWar
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 1/2
Transformers: War for Cybertron (Hey Dan Amrich, see above)
Tribes: Ascend (the upcoming F2P first person shooter game from Hi-Rez Studios)
Tron: Evolution
Turok
Unreal Tournament III (another game I think was already ported)
X-Men Origins: Wolverine

So yeah, UE3 for Mac is going to make for some great Mac ports. Just saying, being a Mac gamer myself (who had to Boot Camp to get to play League of Legends, and is now hopelessly addicted to the same).

Remember that just because the base engine was ported, doesn't mean a specific game using that engine will be ported, or easy to port if it does happen.
You can already preorder Arkham Asylum for mac on GamersGate (October 13th).

That's very true, but it's a start. :)

Indeed, and having the engine available natively is (as I see it) a better solution than running Windows binaries through Cider like some so-called "mac ports" do. Especially such a popular engine, which increases the possibility (however slightly) that the mac will get ports of games using it.

If only because I could never justify paying double the price of the Windows releases in Cider licensing fees.
