I just noticed Painkiller Black had a new patch. When I try to install it, it tells me "This update is incompatible with installed version". The version i have is the GOG version and it has been installed for a while. I assume this is caused by the fact that I do not install my games in the default location.

Is there a way for me to force the installer to look in a different location for the game?

I tried copying the installer into the game folder and running it from there but it had no effect.
I also install my games in a non-default location (C:/Games) and the patch had no problems installing on my system. Is it possible that you had a non-GOG version of the game installed at one time (leftover registry entries can be a bitch)? Have you tried re-running the game installer, then running the patch?

My little problem is Comodo recognized it as Trojan.Injector. I'm sure it's false positive so i turn off my av for a while. Then the patcher updated my game just fine after that. I also install the game in non-default location.
Please try uninstalling and then reinstalling the game completely. Then apply the patch and see if that helps. If the problem persists, please contact our Support department. Make sure to give as many details as possible and a DxDiag. :D
I am confounded as to what purpose does the patch serve.

Haven't used it as yet since the game runs flawlessly.

So there is a stand alone patch? I just noticed that my game (Painkiller) has been updated.

Yes. If you go to your My Account page and click on the Painkiller game box, you'll see a Universal Update link just under the link for the game's installer.

The patch decreases level loading times.

It fixes a problem with exceptionally long load times. Not sure if any other bugs are addressed as well.

We call it "customer love" (to quote TheEnogmaticT) :D

Let us know if we can help with anything else! :D
Is the patch something utterly silly, like applying imagecfg to the game's exe?

It's only moderately silly, like replacing one of the game files :-) And as Judas said - it should decrease level loading times.

Did you also alter the installer, that if I install Painkiller for the first time now I don't have to patch it?
