Okay, so 10,000 overview for those who either don't live and breathe the internet or somehow manage to avoid the nether-regions where the more unpleasant denizens congregate:

Uncharted 3 has been reviewed by everyone who got preview copies but the game was not out yet when the saga began. Across the board it garners 10/10. Eurogamer gives it a 8/10 with what seems to be a rational review.

The internet explodes in fury and Eurogamer lets the lead dev from Uncharted 3 post a fucking editorial on why he feels the game is "better than that".

Today Tycho of Penny Arcade quietly says that 8/10 might have been Mr. Parker pulling his punches just a bit.

So, I would have hoped that:
1) Game Journalism was getting better year by year, rather than worse
2) That people are somewhat rational

I find myself disappointed on both counts.

I don't know if Uncharted 3 is a good game as I've not played it, nor have I played Uncharted or Uncharted 2, but this reviewer has damned near gotten death threats. And then the publisher of said review has to give editorial space to the game developer to rebut the review... wtf? Why would anyone want to work in the fucking gaming industry as a developer or a reviewer?

(note, see this week's Extra Creditz for more on being a software dev in the gaming industry, also realize you get to go home after 8 hours and get paid more, as in 30-50% more, for non-gaming software development).

This one worried me at times. It looks like reviewers are being paid isn't a myth. The fanboys and devs, they're just same. Raging for 8 / 10 score while the lad did great job highlighting the weakness of the game. Same reason why i never put faith on metacritic.
I have to trust my own judgement nowadays when buying video game, can't rely too much on professional reviewer.
Is there any video game site that hasn't lost it's credibility and dignity out there?
It makes me lose my faith in humanity when I read the comments section under the review of an unreleased game and see people furiously arguing that a game that they haven't even played yet should have received a higher score.

(Uncharted 3 is out now, by the way. It was released on November 1.)

Thanks, edited.

Your freedom of choice risks ruining the shot. Indeed, throughout the game, if you jump into an area you are not supposed to visit, Drake will crumple on the floor dead, Naughty Dog switching role from movie director to vindictive god. That is not your predestined path: Game Over.

// I agreed with this. I'm aware about this since Prince of Persia Sand of Time. Sometime i wonder how that short fall warrant an instant death?

Conclusion is, reviewer need to keep sucking on these big name company / developer. Or else they would lose their job and reputation.

Better to play it safe and rent it and see for yourself instead of believing the reviews. $60 is alot of money. As for me, i dont have a PS3 and this game will not convince me to buy one either, although it does look pretty good.
I believe I said it in the other tread about Uncharted 3 already, but that review is one of the best I've read in a long time (granted, I don't read many). It is a perferctly balanced piece that manages to explain what Uncharted achieves so well while also highlighting the limitations and shortcomings of said achievement.

I have not read that editorial from the developers, and I don't believe I will, but I can't help but immediately think back a few months when Eurogamer gave another high-profile game, Gears of War 3, an 8 out of 10, and Cliffy B seemed to somehow take that as an insult, the spoiled bastard.

It is laughable that so much furore can be caused by a score, and one that is even in the very high end of the spectrum, being so very close to all the 9's and 10's given by the other publications.
The user comments below are amazing. Random people bitching that EG didn't rate it higher. WTH? Enough for me, I'm going to go enjoy my life.
