It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I like to manually sort the games on my GOG shelf. However, for about a month now, I've had the problem that manually sorting the shelf is practically impossible because it's abnormally slow. When I click on a game, it takes about 5 seconds until the mouse cursor picks it up. After I drag it to the desired place, it takes about another 3 seconds until it drops (and gets swapped with the game that was in that spot).

Swapping two games on the shelf therefore takes almost 10 seconds. Moving my recent purchases to different places on the shelf would take hours, which I'm obviously not willing to invest. In the past, this process was still tedious, but at least the swapping was almost instantaneous.

Does anyone else have this problem and/or any ideas what to do about it? I am on a pretty fast internet connection, so that's not the issue. I've also tried different computers and operating systems.

Yes, yes, yes I have..... :( Also my "times" are longer than yours.... :(

Nope, just tried it with Chrome and the swaps are instantaneous.

I think it could depend on PC - mine was build in 2003.

So was mine, all I've upgraded was video card. Still not slow though.

Guys, first I'd get rid of internet exploder if you already haven't as your main browser. Then I'd go and look into clearing your cache probably.
This is bound to be different depending on which browser you use and how powerful your computer is. Specifically, it depends on how fast your browser can interpret the Javascript and render the generated HTML. Internet Explorer is quite infamous for being extremely slow compared to every other browser of the same generation (looking at the last decade), but it does depend on hardware as well (and even with IE it shouldn't be noticeable on fairly recent computers). It does NOT depend on your connection (not that I've tested very slow modem connections, it's entirely possible that what little data is sent to GOG may affect the sorting speed somewhat).

Though since you state that you tried different computers as well, and that it only started being slow a month ago or so, I get a little confused, since it seems that the problem wouldn't appear on all computers you tried.

Yeah, it could be.

FF here, cache cleared, no difference.
Thank you for your replies. I'm running the current version of Firefox on a laptop with an Intel Core2 Duo P9500 @ 2.53 GHz with 2 GB RAM. It's not a cutting-edge laptop, but it shouldn't cause this massive delay, I think. I am having this problem both under Windows Vista and Ubuntu. I've cleared the browser cache regularly over the past weeks.

Then the machine shouldn't be a problem at all, it's better than what I use at work (Pentium 4's from when they just had gotten 64-bit capability). Which makes it just weirder. Tried making a new account on the computer?

Then again, Firefox can be a memory hog - do you have many add-ons/extension installed? Have you tried another browser, say Opera or Chrome?

What kind of new account do you mean? A new Windows user account? If so, no, I haven't.

I have only a couple of Firefox add-ons installed: Adblock Plus and NoScript. I haven't tried Opera or Chrome yet, but I have tried Internet Explorer with similar results. I'm going to try the other browsers and report back.
Okay, I've just tried Chrome and the problem is not present there. The sorting under Chrome is very fast, like it used to be under Firefox. I also tried IE, and while it is slower than Chrome it's nowhere near as bad as Firefox.

So it seems like Firefox is somehow causing the problem. I can simply use Chrome in the meantime, but I'd like to understand what the problem is. It used to work fine, but something's changed and I'm not sure what it is... I looked at the add-ons again and found several different versions of Java Console installed. I deactivated them, but that didn't solve the problem. I also found a Microsoft .NET Framework assistant installed, but that didn't seem to be the culprit either.

See how many Java extension-type thingies are in your add-ons. Firefox tends to collect them like lint.

Yeah, Windows account (hence, "on the computer").

By now I'm mostly thinking it may be a problem with your Firefox profile.
Make a backup of the Firefox profile* and launch Firefox again You'll lose your bookmarks, add-ons, saved passwords, and other settings, but most of those can be retrieved later (not so sure about settings).

*Firefox profile location is (the whole folder, not a specific file in it):
Vista/7: C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<random>.default
2000/XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<you>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<random>.default

I think it is not. For me the problem was more and more visible with my growing collection of games. I think it could be rather some single add-on incompatibility? One from the most popular ones maybe?
