deelee74: I am thinking that the music was almost all recycled from Ultima Online, wasn't it?
I really enjoyed Ultima 9 too. It was simple, and it was more inspired by Tomb Raider than Dungeons and Dragons, but it was a fun game when patched.

That really did suck.
You know, UO was the only MMORPG that I ever thought was worth playing. Millions of people play WoW, and they don't even realize just how inferior it is when compared to the game that Ultima Online was during "second age" or "renaissance".
Ultima had an economy that was completely player-driven. On paper, it sounded rediculous, but in the game, it worked wonderfully. In every other game ever made, the best weapons and armor available were only found on the corpses of the baddest monsters in the game. In UO, the best weapons available in the game were the ones that were made by master blacksmiths.
That meant that the best guilds weren't made up of a group of high-level fighters and mages. They were made up of high-level fighters and mages AND blacksmiths to make their weapons, miners to mine the ore to make the weapons, fishermen to get food for them and cooks to prepare the food....etc.
And somehow, it was a FREAKING blast to play the iron ore miner. Whoever played that role had an immense responsibility, and he knew it. So when your guild was able to work hard enough to build a persistent castle or large house, the miner felt as much pride owning it as the fighters who went out to seek the gold to buy it.
Simply awesome.
Also, UO's 2d graphics were a huge benefit. It allowed the player to see the entire area around him. So when someone is talking to you via text, you could immediately see the words above the guy's head. You didn't have to be looking at the chat window. That is all WoW and Everquest are...Chat Rooms with a shallow game playing in the background.
