deelee74: I am thinking that the music was almost all recycled from Ultima Online, wasn't it?
I really enjoyed Ultima 9 too. It was simple, and it was more inspired by Tomb Raider than Dungeons and Dragons, but it was a fun game when patched.

Really am disappointed that got canceled.
It would be huge, especially for the many "extra goodies" these games carry with them....

The Witcher 2 looks to haver alot of goodies. If gog/cd projeckt would allow preorders like some gamestores i'd gladly resever a copy of the collector's edition and all that swag.

That really did suck.
You know, UO was the only MMORPG that I ever thought was worth playing. Millions of people play WoW, and they don't even realize just how inferior it is when compared to the game that Ultima Online was during "second age" or "renaissance".
Ultima had an economy that was completely player-driven. On paper, it sounded rediculous, but in the game, it worked wonderfully. In every other game ever made, the best weapons and armor available were only found on the corpses of the baddest monsters in the game. In UO, the best weapons available in the game were the ones that were made by master blacksmiths.
That meant that the best guilds weren't made up of a group of high-level fighters and mages. They were made up of high-level fighters and mages AND blacksmiths to make their weapons, miners to mine the ore to make the weapons, fishermen to get food for them and cooks to prepare the food....etc.
And somehow, it was a FREAKING blast to play the iron ore miner. Whoever played that role had an immense responsibility, and he knew it. So when your guild was able to work hard enough to build a persistent castle or large house, the miner felt as much pride owning it as the fighters who went out to seek the gold to buy it.
Simply awesome.
Also, UO's 2d graphics were a huge benefit. It allowed the player to see the entire area around him. So when someone is talking to you via text, you could immediately see the words above the guy's head. You didn't have to be looking at the chat window. That is all WoW and Everquest are...Chat Rooms with a shallow game playing in the background.

cogadh: And as I said in the other thread on a similar topic, things were different before, the wishlist was linked to from multiple easy to find locations (direct link on the community page, the "Please read" thread and the community FAQ, for starters) and it didn't make a bit of difference. Sure, GOG could put all that back, but we'd still be right where we are right now.

GameRager: You honestly think it'd all be the same if we added community or gog staff moderation to the mix to clean up such new threads and dicourage them?
Yes, it was exactly like that before, there is absolutely no reason to think it will be any different again. The GOG staff used to moderate more than they do now, the wishlist was plainly accessible, the community even pitched in to help "guide" new users to the wishlist and people still managed to post these threads all the time. That's probably one of the reasons GOG removed the link to the wishlist, it really doesn't matter if it is there or not, people will still neglect to use it when appropriate.

Warcraft doesn't suck. It's just that the genre isn't the same as when Ultima Online was in its heyday. I loved UO, and I haven't been able to play another MMO ever since. Every other one that I have tried feels like a big multiplayer game, whereas Ultima felt like a living world.

Wow DOES suck, bad. I actually have had nightmares I was playing that POS again (which is probably my fault for playing so much for so long).

Anyway, I never did play UO but I did plan on playing UO2 when it came out. I was bummed they canceled it for no good reason as far as I know. The holistic crafting and class system actually makes me think of MMORPG Minecraft (from the viewpoint of someone who's only watched vids of Minecraft, mind you).

I bet it would have been good.

Drelmanes: The chances are not big, but hey, let's not being so negative.
I didn't expected to see Baldur's Gate here, for example, and now we have BG I & II.
I agree-- I'd LOVE to see Ultima 5, 6, and 7 here (8 was unplayable and 9 just sucked, trust me) -- and if Baldur's Gate can make it, so can Ultima!

ChaunceyK: Never played the Ultima games...I know, its a sin.
That is a remarkably profound thing to say, considering that playing Ultima games is all about virtue.

Have you looked into Eve Online? It's economy and item makeup is similar. Everything being player made that is.
EA owns Ultima rights, I think...

EA is the Holy Grail of the Good Old Games.
ultima 7 and its expansions would make a great addition.
