I have recently purchased by mistake the sacred gold UK edition and has one disc. I installed it and so far everything is fine with it. Am i going to run into problems down the road or is it safer to get the gog version? in the past i have purchased dungeon siege in the UK format by mistake and it installed fine but the game wouldn't even start up on my vista machine. Is the UK format trustworthy on north american machines?

hmm if you are able to preserve your disc for a long time you should not have any problems, the main advantage of buying digital versions is that you can download and install the game anytime you wish, there is no change in the gameplay
There is no such thing as a 'UK format', all PC software can run on all PCs (as long as you fulfill the requirements of course).
Sometimes there is a slight difference between US and UK releases in terms of content (censoring and such) which is why there are sometimes different patches for the same game, but you can still run both games.
Online games (like MMOs) can be a different story though, but the games you mentioned aren't online games.

The only difference between your boxed version and the GOG version is that the GOG version is DRM free and does not require the CD, and maybe GOG did some work to make the game run on newer Operating Systems such as Vista and 7.
Which might be the case with Sacred, I don't know.

Ive come across a couple of games that the spelling is different between the US and EU versions but apart from that it should be fine.
