Anyone playing this? The melee combat looks fluid and is alot more fun than say Oblivion, the spell system is quite unique: you combine effect cards with modifier cards to make a spell so that gives many possibilities.
I finished most of the Savannah's sidequests including the tomb ones and there are many. However, most of the sidequests felt like MMO quests. Does the game pickup later in terms of story? Coz the story atm doesn't drive me on to play.
I'd be interested in hearing what you think after a full playthrough, I have not invested in this titles due to the "meh" reaction I had at PAX. I felt the controls were actually quite clunky (perhaps they tightened them up?) but no worse than RDR, which in all honesty had crap controls for such a good game.
I'm ok with the controls. I run, block, flying stab, do special moves with my twin swords using 1-8 hotkeys like I do in WoW. I switch to another set of armour/weapons with a key, then use my staff/mage set and heal or summon. You don't get to cast spells without a staff though.

But the sidequests are kinda boring. So I was wondering if the story does pickup later.
I'm playing it... about 12 hours in. Still in the savanna.

My opinion on it has changed a lot since I installed it. When I first started playing I was like "OMG THIS IS AWESOME" and now I am more like "well this is pretty good." Maybe by the end of it I will think it sucks.

My main issue is, as you say, poorly done quests. Some of them have a little spark and interesting dynamics but the majority of them are lame fetch quests or simple "go here and kill it" quests. All RPG quests boil down to this in the end I suppose, but they are usually presented better. Two Worlds 2, despite decent voice acting, has a very matter-of-fact feel... you see a woman asking for help and of COURSE she asks you to go save her husband or whatever.

You know what it lacks? Fucking personality.

That said there are many good points. For one the world is lovely looking and the middle-eastern design (and later Japanese from what I have read) is pretty unique for an RPG. For another the magic system is awesome and the fact you need to find your skills and magic upgrades in the world is exciting and encourages exploration. The combat is fun too, I am playing a pure mage and the different spells are great fun to use and switching between them is very easy. Right now I am a fire mage who also uses necromancy and what I usually do is spawn a skeleton to distract my enemy and then pelt him with fire. Fun stuff!

Overall I am glad I bought it and am having a good time, but Reality Pump needs to hire some quest designers and writers for Two Worlds 3.

Is the English translation and voice acting less campy this time around? I heard that it was improved.

Very much so, the voice acting in general is very good. The main character has a very dry sarcastic tone, which some people dislike, but I love it. The writing is even pretty good, with good structure and a lot of dry humor.

The issue is more what they are asking you to do, and how banal that is. If you can get past that it's a good game.

Off Topic - Glad to see your Royal Edition finally arrived. I installed and tested a few hours but I am back with Divinity 2.

I'm in China now. All the sudden the game went from being in the Barrens in WoW to playing Jade Empire. I've done the first few quests over there, they still felt like those MMO quests. I couldn't continue on after awhile. Open world games normally don't keep me playing for long if the storyline isn't good or the quests aren't interesting. However, my first quest in China is pretty unique, I had to save people from man-eating umbrellas but even so that's go to this place, kill, go to another place kill. The other quests I had are still Fed-Ex.

I took a break and went to play King Arthur. Gonna play more today and hope things get interesting because the combat is fun and so is the spell system. I've got a spell that fires an Icebolt and then ignites the enemy for DOT damage. Read the forums that they had created more interesting ones.

Btw, you done the Tomb Labyrinth sidequest yet? It's a horrible waste of time IMO. The last tomb is a nightmare if you get lost in it, EVEN with the barrels.

Yeah, playing Divinity 2 too. Think I kinda prefer Divinity 2 though.

I did the first one and have been ignoring that quest line ever since. Not sure if I will even do it, certainly I am putting it off until the end.

Right now I just did a prison break to help a thief and have done most of the bulletin board jobs.

i was playing and I stopped but not because I got bored, rather, at the time I had to make room on my hard drive for more stuff.

Once more stuff landed on my hard drive, I never got back to it because I was trying all the new stuff - which in turn got set aside for more new stuff (you know how it is).

But I compare Two Worlds to Gothic / Risen and happen to like Two Worlds more because it feels more arcade-action oriented and feels a lot more polished.

EDIT

Oh, wait a second - You're talking about the new one - I'm referring to the one here on GoG.

Eh. I was one of the few people who genuinely liked the first one. That said, the second is far better. Some have commented on the olde english dialog of the original and there is a great character that pokes a bit of fun at that (in the inn at Hatmandor.) The dialog is a bit more believeable, but I believe the main character sounds suspciously like the main character in The Witcher which sometimes throws me off.

Don't overlook the multiplayer aspect. It offers a good deal of extra content and its fun to actually create characters that perform differently.

Ah... I wondered what that was about, since I never played the original game (though I own it, collector's edition even, got it for $10 new on amazon a while back).

I like the arena master, he cusses like a sailor and the voice actor is very good. "A giant fucking spider!" Haha. A lot of the voice work is really good and the rest is passable... IGN saying the voice work is the worst ever baffles me.
