tfishell: My rose-tinted eyeballs wish for the happiness of those days again. ;-) I had a 32x CD drive, Win95, ~100 megs of RAM, and all that jazziness.

JMich: And then you tried running Ultima 7 *shudder*
Am I the only one who never gotten that game to run before the GOG release?

I was young, determined, and quite possibly stupid. Took me about 5 hours to finally get a proper config.sys and autoexec.bat that would allow me to play the game without needing a boot disk.
Ah, the old times, when I could remember how to make a multiple configuration boot.
So no, you are not the only one, if I was to try and set up Ultima 7 now, without the use of internet, I wouldn't be able to either.
Welcome to the forums.

My machine was actually pretty awesome for the time - I had a 486 100 MHz 32MB RAM, a 8x CD drive and a whooping 1.2 GB HDD. Win 95. Pretty top of the line stuff at the time.
It was the first computer for me and my brother while we were kids so naturally we fucked it up in any way you could fathom (though the CD drive died by itself, that's when my dad replaced it with a 4x one which couldn't read most games at the time. Especially Time Commando. God how much I wanted to play that game.) On the other hand we managed to run stuff on it that didn't even remotely satisfy the minimum requirements by the use of sheer willpower and copious amounts of expletives. We upgraded to a Pentium 3 about 6 years later.

Yeah...I do believe that the "minimum" system requirements back in the day were closer to modern game's recommended requirements. I know I had a WHOLE ton of games I used to play on a 766Mhz, 256MB Windows ME machine. And I seriously doubt that the machine came close to many of those games minimum requirements :)

No, you must be mistaken. No such OS ever existed. Microsoft never made a Windows ME, do you hear me?!

Oh dear, I think I'd better lie down for a bit...

You need the RG version... but I fear to link it as many sites share that now and many aren't reputable... If you can find a trustworthy site hosting the "Really Good" edition... its worth a few minutes to play with it ;)
