Sinizine: If the extra client bothers you, MDK 2 HD is heading to Steam at the end of the month so clearly Beamdog is open to sharing their exclusives (eventually). Bug the GOG guys to get working on it.

jamyskis: Anythingly compellingly good about it in comparison to the bog-standard GOG/retail release? The original supports 16:9 as it is...
Graphics are much improved, it's not the standard "Make it for widescreen monitors" type of HD remake. Tweaked difficulties to make Easy easy and harder ones harder, and remastered audio.

jamyskis: I'm not sure what made the industry collectively believe that they would avoid the middlemen by going digital. There's always a need for a collective point of sale.
And they still get tremendous benefits from digital even with Steam taking a cut, so they should be thankful there's a popular list of sources.

GOG can try, but I get the impression that the devs won't be very responsive:

#bg2ee‬ will be in 2013. We have no plans to put the game on gog. The Jellybean encryption sounds interesting, but we are hard up for time

#bgee‬ will launch on Beamdog and the App stores. It will not launch on steam or gog.

Apples and oranges here. I'm talking about MDK 2 HD, which they also said would be exclusive to Beamdog. Which is now going to another service in 2 weeks. Hence, maybe NOW they are open to tossing it to GOG.

StingingVelvet: Not sure why you think Steam doesn't work offline, it has for me for years including 6 months recently while I was overseas.
Cool, so you didn't log on Steam from your machine for the past 6 months, and yet offline mode kept working.

I haven't had a problem with offline mode myself, but I never thought it would last for 6 months.
We've agreed to end the exclusivity on MDK2 HD. It is now up to Interplay as to what platforms they wish to support. They expressed interest in a Steam version, so we built a Steam version. There has been no discussion regarding a GoG version.

For BGEE we're moving it outside of the client and doing just an updater / launcher. Runs, checks for updates, launches game if no update or interweb connection.

Any chance of Beamdog and GoG working together on older games to get them released as enhanced editions that work on modern computers?

Beamdog seems to be aimed at improving older games for the modern market while gog is making older games work on modern computers. A deal that gets some enhanced edition games on gog and some gog exclusive titles on beamdog could benefit both sites and gamers.
