Gah - has any console conversion ever been as frustratingly bodged as the original 'True Crime' game?
For those that don't know - Its a free-roaming car game with beat-em-up and shooting parts that is essential to play with a gamepad EXCEPT that the PC version has no gamepad support!
What a muff up! Has anyone ever found a solution to be able to play this otherwise fine seeming GTA3 clone on a PC in a satisfying way? The best I could do was to use a gamepad keymapper from Pinnacle which was ok-ish but the left and right controls for the car was mapped to keys and so was digital instead of analogue and was as twitchy as all hell
So did anyone ever find a decent work-around?
Also what is your vote for most annoying almost-fine-but-fatally-flawed-and broken conversion or stupidly broken game that seemed like it could have been good on it's native platform
Thanks!
Wow - Nothing?
I thought I'd get some cathartic rants about bodged games that could have been so much better at least
I'm bump this once, in case it got lost in a post flood then I'll take the hint!
Promise!
use xpadder, it lets you bind any keyboard/mouse controls on your connected gamepad. Saves incredible ammount of nerves
The game looked promising, but I gave up after 5 minutes because of the controls.

It's a massive workaround, but you could maybe try running the ps2 version under an emulator? This would give you the full controller support of the console version. I hear that on pcsx2 you can upscale the graphics, so it might not even look that bad. There are questions on the legality of this though, so I'd be careful.

Saint's Row 2 was another very fine looking game ruined by terrible porting. When it first came out, it ran like dirt on my pretty well specced pc for the time. I returned to it recently with my new rig, and while the framerates are a lot more palatable, the game automatically detects any joystick input with absolutely no deadzone whatsoever. This meant meant that as soon as you load the game, you're confronted with a continuously scrolling menu that you can do nothing with.

It's games like these that are the reason I have a console or two lying around.
Previous gen consoles are always relatively cheap. Might as well just grab a PS2 or Xbox and play it on that.
Heh - that's more like it!
Thanks everyone
Yeah, I DO still have an XBox hooked up, I should hunt it down in that format really, not that I actually get to take over the TV to use it except on rare occasions
I just find it mind-boggling that they'd release quite a good game in such a broken state and never patch it, especially when they have a special, plush, larger box for the 4 disks and promise 'exclusive PC multiplayer' - idiots!
Conversely, I also have the original 'Hitman' on XBox that I refuse to play until I get the PC version because FPSes on control er suck (yes, even Halo) - it was a present, BTW
