It's true, it's all true..
Soon your operating system will be provided by your ISP, you'll operate on a subscription service, and you'll pay by percentage of their processing power you take up.
My friends, I work for an ISP. I have seen the future, and it is expensive.

Sorry, but while I don't deny that the "internet as an operating system" will eventually happen (if Google has its way), it will not be your only means of connecting to the internet or the only way you will have an operating system. Just like you can already choose between Windows, MacOS, Linux, BSD, Unix, etc., the web-based OS will be an option available to everyone, but not required for anyone. Besides, the web-based OS is only really useful on an "internet appliance" type PC, i.e. one that is little more than a terminal connected to the internet. Traditional PCs will have no use for that kind of OS and there will always be a market for traditional PCs.

it will happen, because in order to play a game or use x software you'll be forced to use x operating system because you'll want to play x game.
then they'll stop supporting prior operating systems.

Right, because that has worked out so well for every piece of software that has made itself dependent on a niche OS. Just ask developers who work exclusively on Linux or MacOS how much more business they would have if they developed for the more common OS.
Never mind the fact that well over 90% of the 700 million plus PCs in the world are already running Windows, which the public is quite comfortable with... or that a new version of the OS will be out very soon, which will keep people tied to Windows for at least another decade... or that the standalone OS has the support of every major hardware and software manufacturer in the world... or that the mythical "internet OS" doesn't actually exist yet...
There is no way that the public will ever be forced to give up Windows just for the sake of running a particular application or game on an internet-based OS. Instead, that application or game will end up being a niche success at most, if it isn't an outright failure.
When the internet OS does come, it is just going to be integrated into specific devices, like your cell phone, and will not replace the stand alone PC. It may be used for terminals, like I described above, but those will only be capable of basic browsing, office apps and general use purposes, not gaming. For gaming, the hardware muscle of the stand alone PC will always be better and preferred.

That's actually been happening for decades. Sun Solaris systems using a similar operating structure have been around for longer than I can remember. They are great in a closed network environment and do have their uses, but not in the general public environment. Besides, what Microsoft is really proposing with Azure is a way to create application portability across many different devices, not just on the PC. We already have things that can do that, such as Flash and Java. MS is just trying to compete in that market, not change the whole computing landscape to eliminate the need for a standalone OS.

Oh, what a bunch of nice bullshits here XD
This "cloud" thingy is very, very overestimated, at least for videogaming and personal computing. Or at least Intel wouldn't be able to sell its pricy Core i7 any more....
Oh, Weclock, I don't give a damn about your "insight in the future" because you aren't the only one that has been able to look at such kind of thing, keep it in mind and STOP talking like a prophet, thank you so much :-P

Well, it seems the future has already been gone rotten. Too bad I don't give a damn about that (except for Diablo, maybe)....

Think of it, almost all insights to the future predict we'll be operating in a cloud like internet.. and I believe it to be true as well.
Although we're probably a long ways off.

I would rather have my internet delivered directly to my brain. Sort of like System Shock or like in a William Gibson novel. All this hardware we have now is too much of a barrier between the user and the information he requires.
