Licurg: Yes, they did get away with it. They probably never even had a job to begin with. And planting fucking trees is NOT punishment. Wpegg should've taken a few buddies and gone after them. Punishment should fit the crime, if the state doesn't do it, then the people should, it's not brain surgery you know...
avatar
WBGhiro: Alright, let's suppose the normal citizen has the means to actually track down criminals and form some sort of vigilante squads.

... Suppose those guys are a lot more than you have friends; you get your ass kicked another time for free and the other guys have the right to claim self defense.

.... Suppose they are fewer but a lot burlier and skilled in delivering beatings; same as above.

... Suppose you do manage to beat them down, and you accidentaly gravely harm them or even kill them by mistake. is justice now made?

... Suppose you beat them down, and now their friends feel justified to go after you to "make" justice.

There's a reason law exist. What you suggest would only result in endless circles of further gang violence and vendettas.

macuahuitlgog: How about you grow up some more and go fuck yourself? You also very lucky, you called me a coward over the internet and not in real life. If you did this in real life, to my face, I'd kick your ass until you cry for your momma.

WBGhiro: It's funny you argue against him, but your reasoning is even more radical than his.
I know, I am a slave to my anger. I'm not perfect. Him calling me a coward, just made me so angry. Now that I'm more calm, I see my previous words said in anger were pointless and I take them back. It is well known that anger makes people do or say stupid things...

Indeed, nobody is perfect. But being prone to anger on the internet is energy much better spent elsewhere as you probably know.

Yeah but nowadays a big part of my life is on the internet. I know, I need to get a life.
Furthermore I'd like to say that what happened to Lone3wolf is fucked up, and people should get longer sentences for such reckless violence. Also in my country, Norway (which has quite short sentences compared to most) I do get shocked sometimes by how little some people get for vile crimes like unprovoked head stomping and torture.
I'm not crying for higher sentences in general and I do not think an eye should be payed with for an eye, but I think that violence in general should receive harsher punishment.

With that said, prison is not a good solution (but what is the alternative). I believe most people end up as worse people after a prison vacation.

Also, I'm proud to say that my country has prisons that respect the human rights of the inmate, unlike the US and a lot of other third-world-prison countries (like Russia).

Licurg: No, what is needed is that people grow a fucking spine and start fighting for justice. What if the next person dies? Kicking somebody in the head can lead to death or brain damage(wpegg was lucky he had neither). What then? Will your hippie propaganda console his family crying at his grave?
avatar
Sargon: Like the green and friendly ork said on another topic (Libertarianism), if you want to go to Somalia you are free to go to Somalia! There you can pledge you allegiance to the warlord of your choice and go bananas on the other guys. I'm not sure how things are in Romania now but I'm sure it still is a civilized state with a more or less working police and justice system. But you don't have to take it if you don't want to! If Somalia is too hot I'm sure you could find an index of the nation states that are the closest to disintegrating and take your pick from the pick of the crop.

And hippie is a word I much too often see used by people who have no idea what it means. Do you know what it means? No, that's what I thought...
Where exactly did I say anything about libertarianism? I said that if you get attacked and the state does nothing, it's your duty to yourself and others to do justice. How does that equate with supporting libertarianism?

Well at least it was funny. In an ironic way :-P
avatar
macuahuitlgog: That is why more security is needed. It is messed up, no security guards or police were able to rush in and save him right away from those guys. More security could of also prevented the whole thing from happening. The police only came when it was too late. I'm not a hippie BTW. And will the blood of the people who killed him IF he died, bring him back to this world? Will blood take the pain away from his family? The answers to both questions is NO.
avatar
Licurg: No. The kind of security that you're talking about, where any time something bad happens there's police there immediately does not happen in the real world. It CAN'T happen, logistically if for no other reason. And it's not about revenge, it's about making sure it doesn't happen again, and that people who do bad things get the adequate punishment.

I pity you, to be honest. You seem to know nothing about how the real world works. One day, something bad's gonna happen, and you're just gonna freeze and let it happen, because of how cowardly and out of touch you are.
That kind of security can happen in the real world, if there is more security guards and more police officers.

The guys who beat me up years ago are now working as security guards. I wouldn't feel protected at all even if the room was filled with security guards.

Once again, you say things that just don't happen and can't happen in real life. You have to be responsible for your own safety to some extent, you can't just rely on the state to protect you at all times, it's just not feasible. And just for the record, if we were face to face right now, you'd end up in a wheel chair. If you attacked me, that is(never beat anybody up over an argument....)

Well in my opinion, there should always be police to police the police and the security guards.

Forget about the libertarianism, as I've said that was another topic (that I nevertheless felt compared well to this one).

What you want is not mere libertarianism, it is fucking anarchy (and I don't mean any anarcho-syndicalistic communes in pre-Franco Catalonia) I mean blood fire and death. Come back and tell me that I was right when you get older.

No way I'd end up in a wheelchair unless you are a Kung Fu master or expert at Russian Sambo? Are you a Kung Fu master or an expert in Russian Sambo?

Ha ha, that's fucked up. Of course this is probably quite common.
More police out in the streets at nights are good. Especially when they are well-liked and trusted by the general population. You do of course have to pay them too.

Security guards, not so good, but we do need them to some degree. Security guards should not have a right to use violence and just a very limited right to use force against a person. Violence against people should be the privilege only of the police.

Well of course, security guards, not so good if they let anyone easily become a security guard. Security guards could be good.

Nobody I guess but the police who police the police and security guards, shouldn't be in contact with the population. So they can't do bad things to people.
