Yay! TWoGOG during sales. Now to find time to watch it.
No enigmatic release? Whiiiiine!! I was expecting nothing!

Actually, it's Mac OS Ten, not Mac OS Ex. The X is the Roman number 10, because OS X is the successor to the classic Mac OS 9, but they used the X instead of a number 10 because for one it's a completely new operating system that had nothing in common with the old Mac OS and because Unix systems tend to end with an X.
Oh right. It is already Friday isn't it ? guess I'll watch it later...

That's top of my wishlist :(

Well... goes to show that The Enigmatic T is AHEAD of his time! *insert evil laugh here*

It is quite normal for people to call Max OS X (Ex). My tutor is a big Mac user and he calls his Snow Leopard.

Anecdotal - It is embarrassing when you have to explain to a friend that GTA IV is in fact GTA 4 and not Ivy as in the name. Roman numerals always cause confusion, as so many people have no idea how to read them at first.

Yeah, I believe the "official" pronunciation is (Mac) Oh Ess Ten <code name>, at least since Panther (10.3) or possibly Tiger (10.4), though not for Puma or Cheetah (I forget which is which, but one is 10.0 and 10.1, the other 10.2). No "point six" or other numbering except the "ten".

Being an Apple fan boy must be a pain. Using Windows and Linux all you need do is remember numbers and the program names. Apple give you a whole sentence to remember.

Shall I show what other unimportant version names/numbers I remember off-hand?

Windows (codenames not yet mapped-up): 95:4.0, 98:4.1, Me:4.9, 2000:NT5.0, XP:NT5.1, Vista:NT6.0, 7:NT6.1, 8:NT6.2.
Ubuntu (the number mapping table seems to have been lost from my brain): Hoary Hedgehog, Intrepid Ibex, Jaunty Jackalope, Karmic Koala, Lucid Lynx, M?, Natty Narwhal, O?, Precise Pangolin, Quantal Quetzal?
Mint (only the last few): Katya (12), L? (13), Maya (14), Nadia (15)
For Debian, I cannot even remember if Squeeze or Wheezy is the latest (one is 7, the other is 6), nor what the earlier ones were named, only that Sid is always unstable.

Yes, you may laugh at me for remembering stuff like that, I don't see the point of it either.

Laughing, no. Impressed, yes.

95 was "Chicago" I believe.
98 was "Memphis".
2000's codename I don't remember.
XP was "Whistler".
Vista was "Longhorn". In a way, I wish they had kept the name and "theme".
7 may be "Blackcomb" or maybe that's still to come.

Except for the first releases (1-3, I believe) of Ubuntu, the naming convention is the nth letter of the alphabet for the nth release. The actual release name is the last part of the year (13 for 2013) as major and the month of release as minor version (4 for April, 10 for October). I believe, Precise Pangolin is 12.04, since that's the last I remember installing.

Older releases from memory: Warty Warthog, Dapper Drake, Edgy Eft, Feisty Fawn, Gutsy Gibbon, Hardy Heron.
I think Feisty Fawn was my first Ubuntu install, although I do have older CDs.

I believe Squeeze is 6, since I remember that being the version I was upgrading a server to. The previous version it was running was Lenny, which is probably 5. I have no idea, what the older ones were called.

I used to remember some Red Hat codenames, but not any more.

For MacOSX, I think there are names like "Leopard", "Snow Leopard" and "Mountain Lion".

That's the useless OS info I remember, and I just felt like sharing. :-(

I believe some codenames have spanned more than one release, and others have been scrapped and replaced with another before the actual release.

Yeah, I know the idea behind the numbers, and would have added them if I could remember whether Quantal is the latest or if any more has been released (and how many).

Right, the ones after Tiger are easy to remember because they're been heavily used, ones you missed are Lion (10.7) and the latest, Mavericks (10.9) (they stopped using cats, I was looking forward to Lynx :-( ).

Debian uses characters from Toy Story (so Woody and Etch are there as well (hey I remembered some more!)), but doesn't seem to have a simple system - except Sid, the kid who destroys toys.
