shmerl: So it shows that eON already supports some DX11 games. Virtual Programming are the ones who are working on the Linux port of the Witcher 2, and they already improved it quite a bit. But I really hope CDPR won't use any wrappers if they are to make a Linux version of the Witcher 3 though.

silviucc: If by "improved" you mean that they barely managed to get equal performance to the other contender which was wine + csmt patch, then yup, they're kicking arse and taking names alright.
It surely improved quite a lot since the first release. So if they'll continue improving it rather than stop now, they still might get a decent result.

Coelocanth: Again, I'm not convinced this scenario is likely to come to pass. At least not anytime soon.
Such scenario is easy to predict. SteamOS / Steam Machines gain traction. More developers start making games for Linux. In turn it improves drivers, boosts OpenGL usage and development and increases Linux user base and etc. and etc. Same network effects that MS themselves used to gain a dominant market share. And now the same thing can turn against them. It won't obliterate Windows, but it surely can significantly increase competition, and MS are scared of competition because they aren't used to it on the desktop.

I stand by what I said earlier: I'm not convinced this scenario is likely to come to pass. At least not anytime soon.

But this is digressing from the main point, which is I don't believe for a second that MS has anything to do with whether or not there is a Linux port for The Witcher 3.

sanfueg: Everyday more people realize that Linux is a better operating system, an open source environment. And with the SteamOS, the number of games on Linux will be very high. We already have titles like Portal 2 and The Witcher 2 on Linux. Microsoft will start to fall.

sanfueg: Well, Microsoft could try to get the title exclusively on Windows. Everyday more people realize that Linux is a better operating system, an open source environment. And with the SteamOS, the number of games on Linux will be very high. We already have titles like Portal 2 and The Witcher 2 on Linux. Microsoft will start to fall.
2014 will be the YEAR OF LINUX!

I consider it likely, and some latest steps from MS indicate that they are scared (for example them open sourcing some of their gaming frameworks). No one can guarantee how it will actually develop, but we are talking about MS attitude here, and what can be expected from them, not about guarantees. I agree that MS have probably nothing to do with the situation around the Witcher 3 on Linux.
