advancedhero: So many posts saying stuff like "there is no 'best'" and "there can't be factual evidence". I feel like the OP was being sarcastic, or joking, so we really shouldn't down-rep him. Anyway, some of my favorite games are Baldur's Gate, Might and Magic 6, and Final Fantasy 9.
I agree! While the question of course has some seriousness - OP wanted to know which game where considered the best - it was clearly expressed in a tongue-in-cheek way. Same goes with the 'PC master race' fad. Irony and such can be very hard to express on the internet, but sometimes the irony is so heavy that I'm surprised that a segnificant number of people can manage to miss it.

Myself, I don't scrutinize each and every forum post carefully, and due to my lazy reading on the web, I get a lot of things wrong. Everyone does. But it is simply crappy to downrate a post that you didn't even bother to really read.

HANG ON HANG ON HANG ON!!!! :D

Pong is hands down the most important game in history, but there is a difference between that and the best. The Model T is the most important car is history but put it up against a brand new Ferrari and you'd be hard pressed to call it the "best".

I think you'd be hard pressed to get anyone here to agree on what 'the best' game is. I had forgotten the OP's silly little mention of 'factual evidence.'... Yeah, threw me for a loop.

OK, brain brakes off. What evidence do you wish to filter your question through? Best game with most to do? Best game by way of sales? Best game with the most awesome boss levels? Best game with the most celebrity voice actors? Best game by readers' polls? Best game voted best by gaming magazines... or by gamers themselves? That's a long list of filters... factual evidence. The only ways the term 'factual evidence' need apply is if someone is facing criminal charges or investigating a haunted house.

XD I love this forum. For all the grief I give you folks you are always WAAAAAY too on the ball to let me get away with anything, and that is healthy; keeps my sarcastic ass in line. :D

I withdraw "hands down". In fact I will go so far as to say there is no "hands down" or "best" ANYTHING. Still, it's fun argument and I'm digging the thread.
No matter how long you play Robotron: 2084, you can always get a little bit better. There are no fill in the game - no cutscenes, no weapon upgrades - just pure action! The only thing you can 'collect' on the levels are the humans that you save, and this is part of the gameplay, since you must prioritize between saving humans and killing robots.

Robotron is fair - every time you dies it happens because you made a mistake. The game requires 100 % concentration. A few seconds distraction, and you're dead. And the game got more kills per second than any other game I know. It is addictive, but unlike many modern-day casuals, it doesn't feel like a waste of your life.

It has its weakneses, but I think it is one of the purest and deepest twitch games.
