Syndicate. It's a classic that I enjoyed when it was still new but the more I play it the more I get aware of how bad it is. The game is actually just about using the "panic mode" (pressing left + right mouse button at once) whenever enemeis are nearby. Can't say that this is particularly enjoyable but still I like the game for some weird reason.
A weird case were the Terrorist Takedown games as well as some other of those bad shooters made by City Interactive (more like "Shitty Interactive", lololol). All of them are obviously bad games but dang, I actually enjoy them - even more than some "obviously good" games. I don't care about bad writing, bad AI or mediocre graphics if the basic mechanics work. And they do, for God's sake!
Another example is Rise of the Triad. It really isn't a good game. It has some original ideas but actually is awfully boring and badly designed. Most of the time you will only use the MP40 which you can actually get on level 1 and has unlimited ammo. Occasionally you will use the heavily limited launcher weapons which might be interesting if it wasn't for the fact that you can only carry one of them with a few shots each. So you will use whatever launcher you have whenever you encounter a big group or a strong enemy. So there's no room for tactical use of their varied designs. Also the enemies are absolutely boring - despite the fact that some have "advanced" features such as the ability to roll or shoot a net at you - they still don't feel as interesting as the enemies Doom has to offer. Same goes for the levels. Some ROTT fans are very protective of this aspect. It's a known fact that ROTT's technology was very dated when it was released - some may remember the complaints about the fact that there's only orthogonal walls but that's just the start. All walls in a level must have the same height, the same texture on all heights (which looks ridiculous in case of walls depicting doors), there's no way to create interesting architecture and the attempt to circumvent this via the hover platforms and girders is ridiculous. All in all it's a game that looks and sounds like Doom but plays not much better than Wolfenstein - and as a result is less enjoyable than either, in my eyes. And I'm still trying to beat this thing, dammit!
Oh yeah, and Aliens vs Predator Classic (or 2000 or whatever you call it). It's a game that absolutely amazed me when it was new - for years I actually considered it to be much better than Monlith's sequel (among others because of the constant danger present due to respawning enemies which were missing in the sequel). But especially when playing as the Marine I can't stop being amazed by how bad the basic gameplay is. You're supposed to be the weak (even fragile) human who has to rely on technology - so you would assume that combat is about keeping your distance and using your equipment in a clever way. But guess what, the enemies approach you so fast that all encounters with Xenomorphs are almost melee combat where you to run and jump around like a total maniac. And despite this I'm playing and even somewhat enjoying this game because of the setting and atmosphere.
And let's not forget about Unreal 2. It's supposed to be Unreal dammit! But what do we get? Probably the most bland shooter experience ever with terrible writing, terrible acting, terrible character and weapon designs and even pretty bad graphics considering that there was already footage of Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Stalker and Far Cry available at that time. Not to mention really really mediocre gameplay.
Edit:
Oh yeah, and Spellforce. A mix of RPG and RTS where neither aspect actually works, among others because of the awful interface (there's like three or four ways to execute many of the actions and not one of them seems convenient) and unit behaviour. Your hero, the most powerful unit, is the only unit that does not automatically engage enemies. So as a result the most important unit spends most of its time standing around while your minor guys fight bravely to their death unless you spend extra time issuing direct orders to him which is SO convenient during a big dramatic battle. Not to mention that the basic idea that there's no actual enemy but camps that generate more and more enemies all the time is a bad joke - it actually happens frequently that the stream of enemies gets so tight that you can't win anymore. Solution? Either try destroying all enemies with your hero (or heroes if you have the ability to spawn them) which might take hours because of the map size or leave the map and return as destroyed camps will remain destroyed but the spawning will be reset... yup, great gamedesign.
Aaaand Empire Earth. There's so much wrong with this game, I won't even bother trying to explain why it's one gigantic piece of garbage. And still I beat the whole damn campaign.
