KOCollins: The guy that made the games talked about why he set prices differently and other things here:

orcishgamer: Yeah, I don't necessarily agree that he's right, but he certainly has his reasons and far more experience making this kind of thing work for him (i.e. being indie before it was "cool").
I agree Orc..he was the first, if not ONE of the first indie guys I even heard of back when he only had the first three Exile games. My early days of PC gaming

He's far the from first. Indie used to be pronounced 'shareware'.

That said, he's extraordinarily long lived. Pretty much everyone else from that era has expanded or gone out of business. I can understand why he's hesitant to screw with his business model.

Leroux: I've often heard good things about the Spiderweb Software games but the Avadon demo didn't manage to convince me during the first 20 minutes or so. Yeah, I know, it's little time for a RPG and maybe it gets more interesting the longer you play it, but I prefer games that get me hooked right from the start. Does any of the Spiderweb games start in medias res instead of slow, with an exciting ouverture followed by a gripping, unusual story? Or are story and gameplay just your average solid but unspectacular fantasy RPG stuff? I'm thinking for example BG & IWD (not that interesting IMO, with no offence intended towards its fans) vs. PS:T & BG2 (highly immersive).

Which Spiderweb game is your favorite and why? Is it crucial to play them in order or can you also play e.g. a part 6 on its own?
Alright, ive played geneforge 1 and it is by far the most gripping one out there. If you dont like avadon, try geneforge 1. Its a lot of fun, and if you cant try that one, try the 2nd geneforge. That one is just as good in my opinion.

I never could get into the avernum games. The classless system turned me off. It reminded me of icewind dale which i didnt like.
I bought most of his back catalog last year during their October sale, I guess I'll get Avadon this month, thanks!
