Hi all,

I am currently playing the Secret of Monkey island and I am having a bug.

I don't think it's game breaking, but I'd like to check to be sure.

I talked to Stan and he gave me his card. The second time I talked to him he gave me another card. Sadly, all the cards he gave me are gone from my inventory.

I doubt this is game breaking, could anyone confirm this?

Thanks!
From what I can remember, his cards are useless anyway. Just like... a lot of stuff that's made from paper, really. Brochures, cards and such nonsense.
I don't think you need the card, you will need the other tidbits Stan gives you, though.

This sounds like a script got broken somewhere somehow. If you're playing the Steam version, try verifying the cache (Properties -> Local Files -> Verify). If the Telltale or boxed version, I can only suggest backing up your save games and reinstalling it.

SOMI SE has absolutely no debug capabilities, unfortunately, so you can't cheat to get the card or modify Stan's script (you could do if this was ScummVM...).

I would try and fix this because it's possible that you might have other broken scripts, or Stan's loop makes it impossible to interact with him later.

If it is the SE, maybe it was some "new feature" were useless inventory items removed from the game (at least to a certain extent)?
Thanks.

It's the Steam version. I checked the Steam forums and I am not the only one having this problem.

The first time I had no card in my inventory. I reloaded and talked to Stan again. Then I got his card in my inventory. After talking a second time, all the cards were gone.

Weird. ;p

I'll check the cache. Thanks!

EDIT: Steam didn't find anything. I'll continue playing. Thanks for your help!

No. The game hasn't been modified at all. You can extract the datafiles and you'll find they are binary identical to the CD release. The only new features in the SE are the... "better" graphics and the voice acting.

Incidentally, those datafiles can be used to play the original game in ScummVM, which is the only way to play SOMI these days.

Everything seems to be working correctly. I am on my might fine ship at the moment. Hope I don't encounter other bugs.
