"This return to its roots is more than just a new name and logo for Irrational Games. It represents a renewed commitment to the studio's fans, which you can see for yourself at the new irrationalgames.com. The site is currently just a countdown timer, but soon you'll experience an array of cool community features, insight into the game creation process, and never-before-seen tidbits about games like System Shock 2, Freedom Force, and BioShock."
Renewed commitment to fans, never before seen stuff involving classic games of the studio... Sort of sounds like system shock could be in with a chance of being re-released
Hahaha sorry, that was laughably optimistic...
I can only say one thing: REJOICE!
It may be just a name change, but it will mean a lot more in the future.
I've read this same news link, I hope it isn't only a name change, but a game changer for them.
But what they have to release? the new x-com game? and isn't EA who owns System Shock right now?
-
Just give me System Shock 3 at any day, and put BioShock 3 on hold. ;p
The timer currently says 2 days and 22 hours which means it'll go live on Tuesday.
Isn't it a bit of a coincidence that it happens to be release day here at gog......
Yes, I agree laughably optimistic.
You'll not be seeing a return of System Shock unless EA really is on the verge of bringing it to GOG.
But the possibility of a more... familiar homage would be appreciated.
Yay, the site's finally up and the forums are empty. It IS a new site with about a few hundred users though. Sign up, feel free to add me and stuff.
GOOD. This stupid "EA North", "2K marin" bullshit has to stop.
It removes ANY and ALL recognition of developers, and gives all the credit to the publisher, who are nothing but financial backers.
It would be like Martin Scorcese being referred to as "Warner Classic", or Spielberg as "Paramount Vintage".
No, sorry, you only get credit if you CREATE a game, and FINANCING is not CREATING.
/end rant.
Cool, I'd love to see Freedom Force III.

This is nothing more than a name change to me... unless that very thing were to happen. Finish the FF trilogy, then I'll believe that Irrational is really back.
The australian branch is apparently remaining as 2K Australia for some reason.
Definitely agree on the name being a stupid change. If they feel the need to rename shit, they can always add the owner name on the start, 2K Irrational for example so we can all have a chuckle about it

Would you have liked it being "Irrational Australia"?
...Of course, it somehow fits with your ratings advisory board.
Well thats what I've been calling the place for years now. When I'm not calling it more severe names
I hope this means that 2K Czech (i.e. Illusion Softworks, developers of Mafia 2) will get their own name back too.

I think it's a decision by the division/outpost/company sector number itself.
Sounds like GOG has had an influence on others, since what is listed is what they have been trying to provide to their users. Go GOG!
