RPG. Nation on threshhold of civil war. Dwarves have sided with men. They have found deep in a cave the eggs of legend, the eggs of dragons, those beasts that were thought to be extinct or even to be myth, raised up again, this time in service of evil and used to subjugate the other races. I shall call this game...

That is hilarious.
Scorch 2D as it was. No fancying up needed, I just adored it. Plus I miss my favorite brave and lethal little tank, Tummy of Steel! ;-)

Conceptually: Robin Hood with the Robin as per Michael Praed and the Guy of Gisbourne as per Richard Armitage.

Hopefully but doubtfully: BG III.

I really hope the rights' holders will not cock it up, but will bring something worthwhile forth. I appreciate it will be a hard act to follow, as this really is about story, and BGII pretty much exhausted it.

But how about: a child vs bastard child type of conflict brought unto second generation - style John Snow per Game of Thrones, but much more vengeful, the illegitimate one.

A child begotten or borne by the original hero during a lengthy war campaign taking place post BGII, cast aside, and coming in to claim a stake and take revenge against the legitimate heir(s) and parent to initiate the campaign. Fairly unlimited story options, strong moral conflict, while allowing to tap unto original BG series.

+1 - as this is a rare and most happy recognition indeed to those drunken but great student nights of mine where some unexpected, ever so slight change of the wind forced one to come to terms with the concept of a fair loser!

In case someone blasted away my beloved Tummy of Steel - named for me by a good friend - this possibly was rather hard...I named his Adorable Lutin - maybe I was not so fair there, eh... But I think I won that round, so hey-ho!

Must ask: did you develop a personalized tank to take into all battles, per chance? And also: might you be aware of any version of the 2D you could point me to?

Been to Jo'burg and Cape Town once - loved Cape Town area in particular, though could not afford a most cute impala hand-bag at the time, sadly...

Edit: grammar.

pigdog: I wan't to create a holographic virtual world. Then, using sensors inserted in your Superior temporal gyrus* I want to be able to manipulate this world and be able to travel to any time period and shape it to my will. Hell, I may even have an affair with Scholar Ling...
Basically, this would make you a god

Uhm, I vaguely recall being able to play with a custom tank - I was about 8 or 9 when I played it many years ago :-)
I remember the weapons best, like the 'death head' I believe it was, the MIRV and that projectile that created a pool of lava (absolutely devastating if you could fire that into a narrow valley containing a tank)

It appears that there is an official website for the game along where you can download of all the official versions : http://www.whicken.com/scorch/index.html Any of them should work fine with dosbox. Apart from that site, some version(s) of the game is also on abandonia and abandonware. In fact I feel like installing it right after I post this reply =D

Cool to hear that you've been to Cape Town :) It, and the Western Cape in particular, are lovely. Probably the nicest place to live in SA. I'm living in Pretoria myself, which is perhaps just as well, as relative to Cape Town it is closer to the eastern Drakensberg, Blyde River Canyon and the Kruger National Park, which I much prefer nature-wise.

Sorry to hear about the impala handbag - Africa themed Items aimed at tourists are sometimes a bit overpriced :P
A good idea I think is to ask people in the area where your staying when and where the big flea markets are.

Only in my virtual world although I'm now wondering if I can get exclusive hardware that allowed me to bend reality....now that would be cool and I'd start by giving my fellow GOG'ers untold wealth and (limited) power. I have no shame and it's a transparent attempt of carrying favour! :)

ET3D: A story based superhero MMORPG. Yes, it will have special mechanics and unique ideas. :)

Aveweto: this one exists its called Marvel Heroes :P
I think I was misunderstood (due to lack of detail). It will be a game where you can create your own hero and that hero will have a real effect on the game world.

Oh joy if your pointed source works - I've tried to google this but... only gotten the infect 3D version back. Thank thee kindly! :-) Let me know in case you end up installing, and it worked - but I appreciate that without couple of like-minded pals to battle with, this game is bit of a wasted opportunity.

Let us not forget Sand-digger, though, a poorly placed tank's good and devious friend for offense, and most affordable too!

But yeah, death head, MIRV and "nuke" something (the lava thing) ... I remember those too... especially as those über-ammos were very hard to come by if your first round(s) went poorly - as victories meant more money to buy better armaments. And quite often the last rounds were sort of funnily exaggerated armageddons, as everyone was committing their most precious ammo.

Whether you take it for fine discrimination or foolish infantility, Scorch was most certainly great at one's early twenties too, lol.

And hopefully I will get a chance to travel to ZA some other time, if only to fix my impala mishap, eh.
