One more thing: it's also a good idea to open a portal before you release Vaal. That way you can just leg it if things are really going bad.
Some threads I found for reading up on Vaal:

PoE is a hard game to whittle bosses down with bad skills, unless they create adds that you can kill, because you do run out of pots. If you can portal to town your pots will refill, though.

I think I way over prepared fought him with my ranger and don't think my hp ever dropped more than 10% even if I take the lightning, dropped an exalted orb :) my first one.

Just tried this game yesterday...i'm hooked !
It looks to be better than diablo 3 and honestly i liked d3 (even though it had some issues).

Welcome to the game, my overall experience with d3 was also very positive but this game is much deeper in all key aspects (loot, passive, active skills, crafting system end game maps, races, also more suited for hardcore) the only drawback is melee character can feel a bit clunky in combat also doesn't have d3 easiness of access just jump in and play.

Anyone want to party up for maps? I think we ought to pool our resources together and share quality maps. I'm already getting tired of grinding Docks for more maps and chisels. In fact I've got 1 rare map at 10% quality ready to go.

Really enjoy the skill gem system. Adding life on hit on several skills is great :p
I think i'll try a bow duelist next ^^ already have a build planned.
This game is great !

Found this thread while lurking on their forums. I'm really impressed by the effort the staff is putting in to maintain the game.

I haven't slept since Thursday night (it's Saturday morning now) and Mike on the support crew was with me all of last night having had only two hours sleep which is pretty indicative of our hours of late.
I know Chris pulled a 30 hour shift or two recently and support staff has been extremely stretched with non-support staff and siblings even being pulled in to help during the 9pm to 12am shift. I've done a few all nighters and ended up in hospital for high blood pressure and overexhaustion haha - I went straight in the next day because I really wanted to get the skill fx microtransaction vids out the door and hey, I love my job!
But yes, we're stretched in some senses but also enjoying what we're doing and really loving the opportunity of having the game out in the wild for people to play.
@F2Pelerin2010 - I am - for some reason they wouldn't cast me as the witch! ; )

I rolled a Templar earlier today. HalidurTrueblood. Cause you can't have spaces.
So far I'm greatly enjoying it. It feels like a throw back. Instead of wave after wave of monsters, the game seems to focus more on smaller encounters with higher danger.
I'm level eight (I think?) and I can't decide where to go on the skill tree. I've just done generic strength, a little into dex & magic, but I need to decide if I'm going one handed + shield or two handed.
The game plays just different enough that I struggled at the beginning, but now I'm doing pretty good in Act 1. The auto refilling potions was the hardest for me to get used to. So used to conserving potions, that I just wasn't using them and letting the charges go to waste.

I aw this Blood Mage build advice and found it interesting, it shows how versatile PoE is.
