Hey guys, are any of you excited about this title? About this time every year I feel liking getting into an MMORPG and have been looking at the Old Republic, but i'm having mixed feelings about it. In some of the gameplay videos it looks like it's gonna be a WoW clone with the clonewars graphical style.
Did any of you guys play Galaxies or have any thoughts about what the final outcome of this new game might be?
(if this has already been discussed i'm sorry, the search function is a bit difficult to get anything out of)
A jeez sorry, just found the other threads, apparantly "the" is very important for the search engine. Anyway, by what i read in the other threads, they haven't revealed that much since the last post about it.

I have no idea what to do with this game. I dislike MMOs, I have tried WoW and several others and thought they were boring as hell. Grinding, lack of real narrative, boring quests...
This game is supposed to be narrative-driven though and hide its grind better. And I love Bioware...
I don't know!
i just think the idea from galaxies with the jedi-class as secret path you search for is much cooler than the jedi-class being choose-able from the beginning.(Ofcourse the Galaxies idea only worked to a certain extent)

i know what you mean, and if that's the case it'll be the same for me as with WoW... lvl 17 :p

The only MMO I've ever liked was Ultima Online, which I stopped playing in about 2000.
If there's one with that sort of skill progression rather than levelling, I'd be more interested.
The last one I played for a while was Anarchy Online, which promised much, but delivered little (apart from bugs).
All these new ones I hear about just make me think of AO's promises, and I decide to avoid them. I don't think I'd have the time necessarily anyway, so it's probably for the best.

yeah i know, i'm probably just acting on the spur of the moment with these MMOs, maybe it would be best on a social level to avoid getting in to one again...
unless i get a couple of mates to join in, and we would become a slimy trio of nocturnal creatures gaming through the winter in my basement...
From what I've seen so far I'm looking forward to at least playing through to end game at least once. The interactive talking where everyone gets to voice their own opinions and progress the story looks really intresting.
Also if they can just keep it where you progress towards an objective killing enemys on the way like they showed in the teasers, throughout the game and not heres your quest go kill 10 ewoks I'll be very happy and probably addicted.

yeah exactly, did you see the gameplay video where they showed the Sith and the bounty hunter boarding the imperial ship and working their way towards the captain?
And i know this isn't really bioware's area, but if they could find a good way to integrate the flight segments(and nail the gameplay itself ofcourse) they could lift the game up a notch

Yea thats the teaser I watched. Looked more like kotor then an MMO which is a good thing.
I'm kind of disapointed with the flight parts though, they look good, lots of lasers and explosions but I was kind of hoping more for a arcade flight sim and not a starwars starfox.
I would be interested, plus it's Bioware and I'm in love with what they do (despite the criticisms, i loved DAO and ME1&2, not mentionning their much older games). But The Old Republic has a major flaw for me: it's about Star Wars!!
Don't misunderstand me: I'm not a fanboy, saying for example that Star Trek (or any Sci-fi movie/series) is better than Star Wars. No. It's just that I couldn't care less about the Star Wars universe. It's like that. I have watched the 3 original movies, liked them, but that's all. I even find what has been written/filmed/recorded about Star Wars after those three movies utterly boring.
But that's just a matter of taste, okay? I'm not insutling people who like Star Wars, I respect the fact they can like Star Wars. For me, it's just a no-go.
I'm much more enthralled by what I have been able to read and see about Guild Wars 2, especially after the GamesCon.

yes i have to admit that it was mostly the good looks that got me excited about the flight parts. But i'm wondering how they'll implement it.. like if it becomes part of some quests but also a random encounter "minigame" when you travel through galaxies.
It could be cool if you had the whole party aboard one starship, but certain classes or skill paths were required to control the ship...

it's not insulting.. actually when i saw the developers talking so enthusiastically about lightsabers at 2:40 in this video i thought "what the hell am i getting myself into?!"...
