If memory serves, the older Mechwarrior games are a legal nightmare thanks to their shameless theft of mech designs from macross so I'd not get my hopes up to EVER see ones that feature destroids

Mechwarrior 4 got legally released for free, and I can't recall any mechs in Mechwarrior 3 that weren't also in Mechwarrior 4, if not through the vanilla game then through expansions or MekPaks.

If they were able to get Mechwarrior 4 re-released then perhaps at least 3 would possibility as well.

Yep, I certainly wouldn't mind the Mechwarrior series. Especially since the freeware Mercanaries always crashes on me as soon as a mission starts.

I think only Mechwarrior 1 (and maybe the cresent hawks games?) is legally murky. The designs weren't stolen, they were licensed to multiple NA companies by different Japanese companies which is what led to the mess. This is all moot anyway as Microsoft holds the rights to Mechwarrior and I don't think we'll see them here for a long time.

MW2 was the shit. MW3 is also really cool. For some reason I wasn't that impressed with MW4.

The Metaltech games, Heavy Gear 2 and Terra Nova are also excellent mech games.
