Yes, you read it right. Why not buy stuff while helping the Linux cause? ;)

No annual fee. VISA only. And for every card activation the foundation will receive $50, and a percentage of the purchases you make. The only downside is that it's US only. :(

Here's the official links for it:

But is it open source?
I don't know... I don't know... I don't know... what to think of it. Somehow having a Linux branded credit card handed out by a "multi-billion dollar company" seems contraire to what Linux and open software stands for :/
On the other hand I would love to have a Tux branded Visa card.
Applied and.... rejected. Man my credit sucks!

Aw, that's quite a downside. It did seem too good to be true. Well, +1 for letting us know anyway - no doubt the USsians among us will find it worth investigating further.

Think of the geek cred you would get with that.

Can you imagine going on a date with a hot girl at a fancy restaurant, offering to pay and pulling out a Linux Foundation credit card?

Catshade: But is it open source?
To be fair, they tried that. But many customer's alterations meant the cards no longer fitted into the slot.
Now that is serious geek cred. Ba-dum-cha!
This is what's known as an affinity card. Just realize you are also supporting most likely B of A or US Bank in the bargain as well (in that order of likelihood). After looking at the website I'm going to go with B of A most likely as the US Bank stuff is all Java and this is .NET.
