So what's the deal with this? Steam gets it while we get the "old version"? Will it ever be updated to include the Gold version here on GOG?

I wonder the same thing. I don't see what prevents this coming to gog.

My understanding was that the Gold Edition was actually a remake and not the same game.

I could be wrong though.

It was afaik a PC port of the iOS port of the Windows game, if that makes sense. Apparently the interface is better but I haven't played it so I can't comment.

Gave up long ago to see it updated in my library on DotEmu, and they are the publisher on Steam.. Shame.

There was a sale not long ago, I re-purchased it there, for a few €.. Today's market, I assumed and submitted. :/

it has a new and improved interface, a hint system and added character bios and such as unlockable bonuses as you play. It also got achievements and integrated Steam Cloud save .

I have this on GOG, but I bought the Gold Edition on Steam while 66% off (or 75%, can't remember) just because, for a strange reason, the Steam version contains full italian language support, while the GOG version doesn't.
