orcishgamer: While they did have to take out the chip that would have allowed individual finger tracking before release (for cost reasons) it still tracks an amazing amount of small movement.

wodmarach: Fall update introduces the newly optimised software finger tracking is back in.
OK, that might be worth it. If for no other reason than so my computer can know that I'm flipping it off when Windows does something stupid.
I think at least part of the problem is that people are still jaded after the schlock that is the Wii library. So much shovelware. So much awful, awful shovelware. *Shudders* Since they're optional add-ons, unlike the Wii, people aren't paying as much attention because there aren't as many titles for the 360 or PS3 that actually REQUIRE Kinect or Move as there are for Wii motion controls. Like how Mass Effect 3 might have voice controls that are actually amazing, but it's highly unlikely Bioware would force its audience to get a Kinect to play the last game.

It might turn out to have some amazing stuff on it, who's to say, but for now... lemme know when a bunch of trucks show up at the Alamogordo landfill packed with the unplayable party games of the Wii. Then we can talk.
I had a Kinect for a few months but was unable to use because of the distance I had to be from the Kinect unit and my self, I cant remember but it was like 10 ft i think to do this dodge ball game, I had to turn my TV diagonal in the room and go to the other corner. So I ebay'd it! If I had bigger area I would of kept it, Maybe for some of the Kid games for my little one.

orcishgamer: Well, I supposed there's nothing stopping you from holding something with buttons, but honestly you can do a fairly surprising amount of stuff with just your body. Don't forget that there's voice commands as well. I use voice commands nearly every day to control music while I make dinner or do dishes.

While they did have to take out the chip that would have allowed individual finger tracking before release (for cost reasons) it still tracks an amazing amount of small movement.

hedwards: I hate voice commands. The technology in general has gotten a lot better, but I still have bitter memories of screaming into a handset because the machine couldn't hear me.
Unless you're blasting music or something, the Kinect does very well with voice. It's fairly amazing how well it works in various lighting conditions with the camera, as well.

That is so fucking cool I don't even know where to begin.

wodmarach: Aaaaaand now you sound like a sony fanboi.. congrats your argument is now able to be ignored.

Roman5: how exactly am I a fanboy?

The game controls very poorly on the Kinect, especially if you want to achieve higher scores/ratings the Kinect is very poor for that

The move version is actually responsive and works well
This is how I can tell you've never actually played it on Kinect.

I might have posted this earlier but it's a very simple thing. People X like a certain kind of gaming and when something comes along that challenges that, flirts with replacing it, people X get scared and vent that as anger. The Wii, Kinect... shit, consoles themselves... all represent this to PC gamers.

Which is funny, because despite the fact that I'd vehemently argue that PC gaming should be better than it is at this time in the hardware cycle, PC gaming clearly hasn't and isn't disappearing.

As for the Kinect, would I want to play all my games like that? Hell no! Does it rock for some games, holy hell YES!
Kinect is fun.
Yeah, the response time and accuracy varies greatly from game to game but this is not kinect's fault. There are some very well done games for kinect and some others that are obviously rushed.
Overall I like it and my kid likes it even more.

alexisgondor: The worst part is... Double Fine made a Sesame Street game for Kinect

I... Why

I cry a little every time I see this game. Excuse me.
Although it is kind of annoying that Double Fine is working on licensed game rather than something original for the Kinect, I'm pretty they are actually fans of the license and so I think it's probably less of a case of them selling out but actually working with something they'd like to.

The Kinect is a very interesting device, it's just a shame that not many games have really taken advantage of it and have tried to innovate rather than just copying games from the Wii, apart from Child of Eden, Gunstringer and Dance Central.

For it's target age group it does look pretty good and it's rather uncommon now to see a video game target an audience that young. I mean if I was a parent and my child loved Sesame Street I'd buy the game in a snap.
