Thought I'd start up a counterpart thread to the E3 thread for us Europeans that are going to or remotely interested in the gamescom this year. I've got my tickets and hotel booked already.

I've heard Sega and Nintendo won't be attending this year. Sounds drastic, but ultimately both stands sucked badly last year. Apart from that, I'm not sure what publishers will be there. Is GDP/GOG making an appearance this year?

Anyone else going?
I hope I will have time to go :-) Arenanet with GW2 should be there *yeah*

They were last year as well, but there wasn't much to see.
Bump!
Half-Life 3 is on this list:

Edit: Looks like a mistake after all:

Of course...

Valve...when are you going to release anything related to the series? It's not like I'm a fan of the games and would like some actual closure instead of a cliffhanger ending! But no instead Counter Strike GO is what the fans wanted...some of them. God Valve is such a troll to it's fans. /rant

Well, this year's gamescom is akin to a bad joke. Any pretence at crowd control was nothing but hot air. Most of the stands involved a 3-4 hour wait to see nothing more than a prerecorded video.

The level of intelligence that many of the exhibitors consider gamers to have was nigh-on insulting. After relatively modest use of 'booth babes' last year, exhibitors this year had so many of them running around that you couldn't walk for 30 seconds without one trying to push some kind of leaflet in your hand. Most of the presentations were hollow affairs, with Razer being the worst.

And instead of trying to compete for gamers' attention with clever displays and campaigns, most exhibitors were striving to be the loudest, having some gobshite screaming and blasting your eardrums out.

It's a sad and telling thing that one of the best stands today was the German USK, which made a good effort and did manage to get quite a few visitors in compared to last year.

This year was quite clearly the worst gamescom/Games Convention since they started. Will probably be there in a professional capacity again next year, but I'll certainly be leaving the private visit be.

I went the last two years. Last year was so disappointing, I didn't go this year.
