I have just finished Blackguards, and I am a big fan of the Drakensang games (they are in fact among my favourite cRPGs ever), and I realised, that the games based on The Dark Eye feel to me much more like actual pen&paper RPGs than the ones based on D&D. Which is somewhat strange, as I have never played The Dark Eye outside of computer games, and I have played quite a lot of D&D. I'm not quite sure what is it- the combat, the story, the characters or some general, intangible quality about them, but while still a far cry from playing "real" RPG with friends, I do feel some connection to it. And I never got it from any of the D&D games, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights...
Anyone feels the same? Which games feel most like good old tabletop stuff to you?
A lot of the old gold box D&D games are fairly faithful to the pen & paper origins. My personal favorite was Dark Queen of Krynn just because of the dragonoids it introduced that ramped up to difficulty to, at times, very unforgiving levels. It's really a pity those still aren't on GOG.
