Who are the biggest players in the industry?

http://uk.gamespot.com/features/who-are-the-biggest-players-in-the-industry-6387414/

See for yourself how big CDProjekt is compared to other publishers and companies
The list is kind of crap. It compares CD Projekt with Microsoft's and Sony's full business.

It would have been better if it had compared CD Projekt with MS' / Sony's game development / publishing revenue.
ill have to read more carefully, but that list isnt too genuine, as most of those company's game deivision are mush smaller.

like for Sony, shouldnt it just be SCE (or whatever its called now) and not the entire company? same with WB. ther is no way WB is the fourth largest GAMING entitiy... total entertainment, sure!

so, Nintendo is the largest game-only company? i might have guessed that!

"because not all of these companies report the revenues of their gaming business separate from all other interests, we couldn't accurately limit the exercise to just game sales. That obviously means giants like Sony, Microsoft, and Time-Warner will wind up dwarfing their more gaming-focused counterparts, but it carries impacts on the smaller scale outfits as well"

so, they do compare the entire company. i think for Sony, they could have gotten just the entertainment division numbers.

what is also not really fair in the comparison is that Sony owns, at least, a half dozen studios the size of CDP... how big is Naughty Dog, per se?

Yup. MS' ED ranks around a billion or two... make it 5, it is still less than the 60+ mentioned there.

Remove all the other stuff in the ED, and the division would rank at around a few hundred million. (from games dev / pub only)
read the article. not just the pictures.

i did. and my point still stands.

him [the author] admiting it [the game division are smaller] and me pointing it out is less of a conclusion-jump than your assumption.

when i posted my message you had not yet edited your post. now its clearer... but...
you say that its not fair because sony owns at least half dozen of studios... so does ea, activision etc. how is that not fair.

and my point is still perfectly valid against elenarie.
Considering the money Gamestop is making, I wonder how much of that is done by their highly exploitive used games trading scheme. Even if it is only a third, I would rather have that going to the others companies directly.

You ever wondered why pubs are pushing DRM? This is it.

I read the article and that doesn't make the list less crappy.

read again because comparison between cdp and microsoft is irrelevant.
hmmm ... where's Valve? - it's be interesting to see with Steam where Valve ranks amongst the various companies. It's an extremely odd omission.

no its not.

valve is privately owned company. only their accountants and government know how big they are. they have no obligation to release info on their revenues, on their size, expenses etc.

sans one cannot really speculate without any data.
I had thought Ubisoft and THQ to be bigger. I'm not at all surprised to see Nintendo up there, but I would like to see those figures ironed out a little more. For instance, I can't really see how well the company is doing when compared to Microsoft and Sony. Decent article at a glance, but not for in-depth dissection.

Ah I see, I forgot Valve was privately owned.
