It's a cute ad... not really executed wonderfully, but it's cute.
That said my GTX 480 never goes above the mid-70s and the whole "OMG HEAT" thing is vastly exaggerated based on early reviews of non-final hardware.

there was a driver update a month after release it upped fan speeds ALOT power usage on 480's even at idle is high despite some really aggresive clocks

dudalb: Wow, fans of ATI and Nvidia going after each other. What a surprise.
avatar
Navagon: Because both companies suck and people feel the need to justify the hundreds they spend on their products.

Correct. Fact is Both companies do a lousy job on their drivers.
ATI used to have a slight edge in backwards compatibility, but apparently the newest generation of cards does away with that.

I noticed that ATI abandoned XP just before Win7 was released. Support actually decreased dramatically.
Although when I ditched the card I never realised what extremes they'd take that to. When I gave my ATI card to my brother he could barely start Windows XP for the error messages. It wasn't until he got year old drivers installed that it worked fine.
So they aren't just killing off backwards compatibility. Anyway, I've actually had much better backwards compatibility since I switched.
It's just a shame that both companies can't focus on fixing existing problems rather than constantly trying to outdo each other. Especially when the hardware their previous generation's hardware still isn't being taxed at all by any current game. It's also pretty clear that Nvidia can't yet push performance any harder without setting the whole computer on fire in the process.

no error messages (until i start messing with ati's overclock thingy...)

Lucky you. Naturally it's not going to happen to every configuration. No developer is that... well no successful developer is that sloppy. But given the rather consistent complaints levelled at ATI's drivers I can hardly consider myself alone in the matter.
But no, it wasn't always like that. It used to work fine. Then the situation deteriorated dramatically around the middle of last year. Personally I think that ATI's insistence on regular driver updates is more of a problem than a solution. Rushing them out like that seemed to be creating more problems than it was solving.

since vista i've seen ALOT more complaints about NV drivers than ATI

*a lot - it's two words.
What's your point? How many times do I have to say they're both crap? I only care about the problems I have with them. Always had problems with ATI. Dramatically less problems with Nvidia. That said, I'll probably keep switching between them. Nvidia aren't looking so hot right now. Or rather they're looking too hot.

1st, grammar nazing a typo nice going.
2nd, the heat problems are better with the GF104 though still crappy when compared to ATI, the main problem with ATI right now is because they are supply constrained the AIB's and retailers are really milking them in prices after nearly a year they are actually above their release price.
