Gersen: So basically what you are saying end up to "It a wonderful time for PC gaming because we will soon be able to get rid of the PC part of it.".
Yeah. Makes no sense to make a thread celebrating the PC, and then using it to advocate a platform that is much more dangerous to the platform than any console.

predcon: Define "cheapest". I got the MSI 790FX-GD70 motherboard and AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black CPU when they first came out, and they weren't exactly budget priced. And the Gigabyte Radeon HD 5870 SOC was just above $500.

Delixe: Forget me defining anything. Explain to me how you will have to replace a 5870 in 6 months.
My point was the exaggeration of the fact that up until now, new models of video cards and other hardware were being released quite rapidly. You know, like the old joke about how you buy a brand new computer and as soon as you get it home it's already obsolete?

But that's the point, that was never true. The Nvidia 7950 was a very good card even when the 8xxx series was released. The 8800GTX is still not obsolete. If shoppers are that gullible to believe that when a new card is out then it must be a quantum leap then more fool they. Most gamers back in 2006 either bought the Q6600 or the E6800 and with overclocking those chips are still good today. My Q6600 is overclocked to 3.3Ghz and the Windows Index shows 7.9 Not bad at all really.

The GeForce 7 series doesn't support DirectX 10 or 11, if I'm not mistaken. Granted, not a lot of PC game have taken advantage of 10 or 11 yet, but I like having the option to support it.
Kinda related to the topic, but anyone got a spare 7950 agp they want to get rid of? I have an older computer that could really benefit from a card upgrade. : )

That's you. Most people are happy to play games without DX10 or PhysX or Tesselation or whatever the GFX card companies come up with to persuade us to upgrade. Fact is the 8800 Ultra is STILL one of the most powerful DX10 cards you can find despite Nvidia persuading it's customers to upgrade to the 9800 GTX+, GTX280 and GTX480. Oh and yes the 580 is out now.

Yeah, directx10 support began on the GeForce 8 series, and on the HD 2000 ati series. Nvidia didnt have 10.1 support though.
