I'm sorta on the fence about this one, what with the weekend deal and all. I already own Operation Flashpoint, and am not really a HUGE tactical shooter buff, and I was wondering if the sort of strategy involved in this game was different enough to merit a purchase. Also, is it actually fun, or just realistic?

Both fun and realistic. I love SWAT 3. It's one of those tactical shooters that actually gets it right. Some of the levels are just huge (and therefore frustrating at times), while some are small and just right. In fact, it doesn't actually try to do anything of epic proportions. One mission actually has you apprehending just one suspect.

My only issue with the game is that enemies have the reaction of a freaking fly. They often respond to your presence before you can even say "SURPRISE!"

As for realism: discharging your weapon is a sign of failure. Or at least the last possible thing to do when confronted with a dangerous situation.

It all depends what's your idea of fun. I find it exhilarating when I'm down to one last suspect and hostage in the room. No save, one shot to get it right. Move your team into position, throw the gas inside, hope for the best. If you shoot first, you usually get minus points. If the suspect shoots first, it can mean your death and mission failure. Just try to stay calm under those circumstances. That's why Swat 3 (and 4) survive the cut any day in my book.
Thanks for the feedback. However, I decided that a few dollars off isn't enough to convince me to buy the game, considering the backlog of games I have. I'll probably wait until I have a real itch for some tactical shooting.
