Tiberian Sun works just fine. I'm actually playing it these days.

zaine-h: I would honestly recommend running XP in a virtual machine on the Windows 8 rig you already have. It's a bit inefficient but it would probably be easier than hunting down an XP gaming computer and drivers.
Unfortunately I haven't had that much success with that so far, at least for 3D games. Various issues with various games I tried running with VMWare Player running WinXP. Same goes to running Win98SE in a virtual box.

I'd wish it to work better though, as then I could give some retro-PCs a rest.

That's unfortunate. I was even considering making a virtual machine for my most bothersome games. :/

Use Virtualbox for Windows titles and Dosbox for MS-DOS ones.
