A friend of mine and I were discussing hybrid genre games and what constituted a hybrid game venues a game of one genre, with minor elements of another genre. The one we had the hardest time defining was what was adventure/strategy game.

The only two I could think of was King of Dragon Pass and Dune. We argued if Star Control II or Pirates! had enough strategy but I was on the fence with those two. I racked my brain but I really could not come up with very many ideas of a game you could really call a strategy/adventure game. I thought I would check with the experts on GOG. How many strategy/adventure games can you think of that are truly a seamless blend of two genres.

Uhm, adventure + strategy? I haven't played any of those games that you mention (besides Pirates) but it looks more of a management + adventure thing going on. Maybe Banner Saga? Haven't played it yet... Perhaps Zhafehouse Diaries but i think there's not really a story going on (again, i haven't played it)...

Edit: Also, maybe the Mount and Blade games or that one that is on Early Acess, Kenshi.

Seamless blend? I can't think of any, in a broader sense you could call RPGs a mix between adventure (exploring the land, searching for items, solving puzzles) and strategy (fights, party lineup and gear management)

EDIT: There are many fun genre blenders among the classics, Iron Lord is a great example with both adventure and strategy elements (and action!) but it's not a seamless blend, those old games mostly felt like a bunch of games thrown into one. The fact that the different stages felt like separate games actually made those games even more attractive because you felt like you got multiple games for the price of one.

Birthright: The Gorgon's Alliance
I think Banner Saga would fit the bill. I guess when I said seamless I meant that both the strategy and adventure parts are both vital to the game and play off each other. Not just mini game like aspect spate of the of a larger game.

I'll need to check out Birthright. I a have never played that before.
