After seeing SirPrimalform’s post here, I checked GOG’s FAQs and read the added section about Store Credit (emphasis added by my):
The last paragraph is separated from the above part, so I assume that it’s GOG’s choice to not allow transfer of funds from one balance to the other and not due to the same legal reasons.
Now, it’s been quite a while since I last had funds in both USD and EUR in my PayPal account, but I think that I was able to use a mix if one balance was not sufficient for a purchase. This is not exactly transfer, but at least a more efficient way of using your total funds.
Can anyone confirm if this is indeed the way one can use their PayPal (mixed currencies) balance?
@GOG
If I do recall correctly, i.e. it can be done legally, could a blue text elaborate on the reasons why GOG doesn’t allow a mixed use of both store credit balances for purchases?
2. What is the currency of my store credit?
The currency of your store credit will be the same as the currency you chose to pay with.
For customers using EUR, UK, RUB, AUD:
With the new currency implementation, you now have the choice to pay in your local currency. But you can still pay in USD instead, if you prefer.
However, for legal reasons, we cannot mix two currencies in one store credit. So, for purchases made in USD, you’ll have a store credit balance in USD and for purchases made in your local currency, you’ll have a separate store credit balance.
So basically if you make purchases in two different currencies, you’ll have two store credit balances.
Please keep in mind that funds cannot be transferred from one store credit balance to another.
Though I don’t know what those legal reasons are, it looks like GOG goes about it the way that PayPal does. The currency of your store credit will be the same as the currency you chose to pay with.
