The colors are fine, it's not being able to cue up multiple units that kills me.

Spinorial: Not ideal, though. Last I checked it's only version 1.15.x, and to patch it you have to use Battle.net update, as the offline patches throw up errors.

Also, a more recent, full-featured, and updated launcher is the mca64Launcher, which also includes graphical technicolor fixes built in.
The game comes with version 1.15.2 while the latest one is 1.16.1. I was able to successfully update the game without using Battle.net, but the 1.16.1 patch introduced graphical errors! :D

phandom: No, it's definitely a 256 color game. Changin the desktop depth to 16-bit is one of the solutions I found on the internet (didn't work for me though) Killing explorer.exe and start it again after you are done playing is another solution.
Opening the resolution settings windows and then running the game is another. Tweeking the registry is another.
None of the above worked for me.
Only a w7ddpatcher.exe helped me (Which I found here). I had the same problem with Red Alert, C&C and Age of Empires...... Would you like to share this link with me? I'm terribly interested!
Blizzard offers registry files to fix the colors on their public FTP server:
http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/starcraft/
scbw116_x64.reg or scbw116_x86.reg depending on your OS.

Weird. All it was supposed to do, IIRC, is reduce CPU usage on modern machines.
