cogadh: The only games that needed "modification" were the DOS ones, and those are either packaged with a preconfigured DOSBox or, in the case of the Scumm-based games, have a custom wrapper to make them work (not ScummVM). If the same games were to show up here, it would be no different, LucasArts and/or Valve basically did the same thing GOG does, so I fail to see what the problem is. The games do work as they originally did (some had issues with the Jedi Knight games initially, but that seems to have been addressed) so what more do you want?

DarthKaal: Ok, here's some LucasArts titles that have serious graphic problems when running on recent OS and/or graphic cards (most of these games have troubles when you enable 3D acceleration, and are so slow and/or ugly without the accel):
- X-Wing vs TIE Fighter
- X-Wing Alliance
- Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II
- Shadows of the Empire
- Episode I: Racer
- Republic Commando (bump mapping has to be disabled for some graphic cards series)

I fail to see the point. With the exception of DF2 and RC, none of those games have been re-released anywhere and the "ugliness" problems they do have are not due to LA not patching them, but rather due to the fact that they are simply old... with the exception of RC's bump mapping thing, that's been broken since the game was originally released and its presence has nothing to do with any lack of effort in regards to the re-release, only a general lack of effort with the game itself from the very beginning.
I mean, do you expect LA to release X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter on GOG updated with high-res graphics, wide screen support, pixel and vertex shaders and the Havok physics engine? If and when the game does get released here, it will be exactly the same as it was when it was released, only tweaked to simply be compatible with modern systems. Its still going to look ugly and only support 640X480 resolution, there's nothing anyone can or should be expected to do about that.
I wouldnt even want it to be updated. The point of GOG is to enjoy older titles as we remember them.
I want TIE Fighter with the old TIE FIghter graphics,

DallasDW00ds0n: Hey thats a coincidence, I was just thinking that I'd kill for TIE Fighter, maybe we should work together!
What, no 'it's my birthday' thread? Thought that was all the rage around these parts. Here's hoping you end up with a lucasarts game or 2

The point is that LA gave no support for their games during all these years. This is simply a shame, cause some of their games are cult classics and should have received decent support.

?? Did I ever say something like that?
Thanks, I know the games are old, but when I was talking about 3D acceleration, I was actually talking about an original feature present in the original release of the games (such as Jedi Knight or X-Wing Alliance for example), I've never said anything about new features to be added...
If Lucasarts comes to GOG, then I'm afraid I will have to go broke.
It would be nice to see the star wars games get the "GOG" treatment!

evmiller: The only issue with the DOS versions is that I doubt the source code is still available so that means GoG would have to rip the game and in almost 20 years, there hasn't been a No-CD crack for the DOS CD versions of Xwing or Tie Fighter. Not saying they were uncrackable, but there has never been a crack published for the DOS versions. To get around this Gog would have to rip the CD to an image or folder and mount it as a CD rom from within the DOSbox profile.

They already do this with some of their games, so it's not a problem. It was, until recently I think, the only way to get the CD audio used in some games.
up up

Any news about X-wing (first title of the serie) or TIE FIGHTER (first of the serie) on GOG ?
Any news?

Hawk777th: Any news?
Trust me if Lucas Arts comes to GOG.com ... you won't have to ask if there is any news :)
eBay still has a lot of these for sale, if you have the money for it. Actually, I've seen big boxed copies going for around $10 too.
