Aliasalpha: Granted a star wars one is more likely to grab players as is one with the bioware name on it but its all still a matter of how many continual users it can hold
I like the Bioware name, I like the Star Wars setting, I loved KOTOR. I'm not even going to try this.
If you want to invest money in an MMO that is coming out soon I highly suggest checking out some of the stuff out for Guild Wars 2. The quality difference of stuff shown for Star Wars: The Old Republic and Guild Wars 2 is night and day.

I'm betting it is a hit with the Bioware crowd but the MMO people won't like it too much because WoW is obviously still the top dog in that particular style of MMO.

I want to play it as a singleplayer game like I did WoW, but the monthly fee is ridiculous for that purpose of course. So I will likely offset that by waiting to get it until it is really cheap, like <$20.

Did they announce a monthly fee yet? Like an actual amount?

I played the Beta for a few months. It's a fun game and it improves upon WoW quite a bit, but it's still an MMO, so at times the single player content feels lacking. I'm still planning on picking it up when it comes out if thats any indicator of how much I liked it. Also doesn't help that I'm a huge Star Wars fanboy.

Not that I have heard, but anything less than $15 a month would surprise me.

I'm not a SW fanboy at all, I think Empire is the only good movie. That said I really like sci-fi RPGs and Bioware RPGs, so I want to play it anyway. As a singleplayer dude though the online requirement and monthly fee make that a hard pill to swallow.

No one thing will kill WOW, it will die of a thousand cuts, just like most MMOs (save the spectacular failures). WOW is big, it will be able to handle more cuts than the average MMO but it will implode one day as well. The reverse of the critical mass that made it so big in the first place (all your friends were playing it) will happen eventually, some day there just won't be enough friends left and it'll be in steep decline from there.

Still, it had a good run, probably better than it deserved depending on who you talk to. The industry has evolved in the meantime and seems to be much more flexible. You also have people who've worked on a couple different, successful MMOs now and they're driving the new efforts by some big companies. Wildstar has the added benefit of having nearly their entire art team as ex WOW guys. Blizzard has trained a whole industry from the inside and out, eventually they won't be top dog, but you don't need to be a seer to know that:)

The short version is, there will be no, single WOW killer.

Whiteblade999: GW2
I'm not aware that GW2 has a monthly fee, even though they offer multiplayer online. Yes, I know, the horror, how can they ever make any money!

Incidentally, I did play GW2 at PAX, it looks very big and impressive. I never did play GW though.
