15 years of reign!

King of Dragon Pass, a turn-based free-form masterclass in fantasy storytelling, is now available 75% off on GOG.com to celebrate the game premiere's 15th anniversary. That's only $1.49 until this Sunday!

King of Dragon Pass is a unique gaming experience focused solely on the story. Each time you play the events will unfold differently, every choice matters as you lead your mountain clan down branching paths. With its free-form fantasy storytelling the game evokes the experience of having fun with "choose your own adventure" books, but allows more options and challenges at every step. King of Dragon Pass is a welcome change of pace from action-oriented you blink-you die titles. You can take your time while choosing the best course of action for your clan and seek advice within the ring of elders. The game plays a little bit like a Civilization game, a bit like an RPG, and a lot like an epic saga of hardened men and women struggling to survive. Can you lead them to glory in a strange world full of fierce creatures, tribal politics, aggression, anthropomorphic animals, and strange magic?

Choose wisely and let your clan prosper to become the King of Dragon Pass, for only $1.49 until Sunday, November 2, at 10:59AM GMT!
So this is their solution to crowdfunding then :3
One of the very best games in GOG. The creators gave it an ageless design that has aged wonderfully. It looks like a new game. Very inmersive and full of great lore. The graphic art is nice and the music is wonderful, it does a lot for the game.

You must learn to think like an Orlanthi (nordic barbarian) leader in order to thrive in this game. You will enjoy doing so. The background and culture is inspired in that of the nordic peoples. You will feel your people alive, and feel responsible for them. You will have a council ring to advise you, with warriors, sages, silver-tongues, hunters, tricksters... Think of the entourage of Ragnar Lothbrock in the tv series Vikings (even with some Floki).

Some lines from the Orlanthi ethos:

No one can make you do anything.
Violence is always an option.
There is always another way.

So after purchasing this, I love the idea, but the manual is taking some time to get through.

Heres a note from a newbie to potential new players.

No tutorial. Thats not true, actually you can start a tutorial scenario, but you have to read the manual as you play it. Az the scenario has no lessons in the text.

Also, Read the effing manual! I cannot stress this enough.

In this game you are learning more than controls. You must learn an entire way of life. Alot of the manual tells you about the culture of your people, and what your options are as leader.

How to trade, how important cows are, how not to piss people off. Etc

Had it for a day and I think this is gonna take several more hours before Id feel confident not to lose within a year.
One advice for new players : don't piss off the ducks.
You'll know.
I remember someone suggested everyone buy this during the last insomnia sale. It was super cheap and I thought, "what the hell?" One of the best blind purchases I've ever made.

I HATE strategy games, but I love this game.
One of the best games of all time, I recommend it to strategy fans, and text adventure fans alike.
This game is simply amazing! Take advantage of this sale if you haven't played it yet.

Erich_Zann: Yeah, a remake would be"grate" all right. A significant typo (?) if I ever read one.

CrowTRobo: Fixed that for you.
Erich meant that the remake would indeed feel unpleasant (definition of word "grate") so the typo (great -> grate) was accidentally true. This wasn't Erich being Grammar Nazi, just using the coincidence in the rant.

PS: Nevermind, now I noticed it was already explained.

Erich_Zann: Hahaha !! Yeah, started with "ominous" instead of "significant". Lesson one : always (re)write your sentences in their entirety, especially when you want to be clever.
Can't find "begrate" either in my Harrap's or http://www.oxforddictionaries.com though ? For reference, the intended meaning & play on the typo was this, third one.
Yeah, "begrate" isn't a word, I meant to have a space: be "grate". Since you can't say "would great" which is where I thought you were going but I see now I completely misunderstood the intended meaning. :)
