I have to admit, I'm also in the crowd who's never played Portal. I don't like or appreciate DRM, but my main issue is with cloud-based DRM like Steam(works). I've never knowingly bought a Steamworks title. I've only slipped once on that; Supreme Commander 2, which I didn't find out was a Steamworks game until I opened the retail box.

Clearly my approach goes against bazilisek's, but Tychoxi is right...

It's up to each of us to determine what is a value added service and who offers the best value. Clearly, DRM-free games matter. Clearly, classics of computer gaming matter. Clearly, extras matter. Clearly, newer games matter. If nothing else, GOG.com's new direction proves their market research says that.

Still, not all of those need to apply for everyone here, or for every game we're interested in, but GOG.com would not be what it is now without its supporters, be they fans or customers.

bazilisek: ...we could cut all the crap associated with all you laughable lofty idealists and wannabe Che Guevaras of digital distribution...
I don't think the anti-Steam demographic is large enough to justify giving it special attention. In fact, I know it's not.. Read some of the other comments if you're interested in who at Stardock said that.
Suffice it to say, I'm very aware that, at least relatively, very few people are willing to pass over a game they want in order to avoid Steam. I am one of those people. You may not like or appreciate that, bazilisek, but sometimes it doesn't matter if people hear you, just that you have a voice.
If my clock is correct, will we see the new GOG after one and a half hour from now?

thelostdunmer: GOG will no longer be just for good ole games?
avatar
Arkose: That's the plan. The GameSpot interview has some details about this.

GOG has had some comparatively recent games for a while now (such as King's Bounty and Two Worlds) so opening it up to the latest releases makes sense.
Yeah, I noticed Cryostasis on GoG recently and I was surprised because I consider that to be a new game (it's only a few years old and it certainly looks very high-res and new to me). I guess maybe these special deals were to test the water and see how much demand there is for newer games.

I have a wonderful iOS app called Timescroller, which helps very much with these sorts of things. 9:00 GMT is 5:00 am EDT, which is actually 3 hours and 13 minutes and counting from when I type this message. So, three hours or so left. Sorry. :(

tbennet2: The cake is not a lie... you just can't get to it. :P

Khalaq: First of all, that was a quotation.

Second of all, the phrase "The cake is a lie" is ambiguous and therefore cannot be definitively refuted. The cake itself may exist, but the promise of being rewarded with it may still be seen as a lie.

Have you finished the first game? You'll see...

My bad, I'm too excited to see the new GOG.
I had a relation with GOG. That was nine months ago. Seems like the children come now in form of Indie Games, more pricing options and a new website design.

Just hoping that doesn't mean games get more expensive now, and the usual QA by the team stays. Or GOG becomes Yet Another Digital Download Service.
Woah, I just woke up and now I see this.
Holy shit is dat sexy!
Good work, GOG.
New price point $14.99. That's a good thing, now more game can come to GOG.

ArchonPC: Please, have Legend Of Grimrock lined up on GOG.com ASAP. PLEASE !

Leroux: Can you still hold your breath until tomorrow? ;)
Hell yeah !!

GOG.com just made my day :D

RafaelLopez: Can anyone point me in the direction of the video/site/news feed/internet meme that explains the cake joke? I'm completely lost...

TheEnigmaticT: That you've never played Portal makes me a sad panda. :(
Whenever someone tells me he loves Portal or that he's eager to buy the Portal 2 game or that he wants to go home and play Portal, I feel left out of the party. But I admit I'm the only one to blame. I never really even thought of picking it up and play it.
The DRM Knight Makes Gaming Difficult is excellent ! ^^
Yeah I loved the commercials! They're very well designed, an intelligent and comic way to show the customers what they offer is a better quality product and most importantly showing the new features of GOG.com.
Well done and thanks GOG!
This is great, but I have 976 games on Steam and I really don't need yet another service and another application. I like GOG for older (especially retro) games on the cheap made specifically to work on today's systems and sans DRM. I don't want to run apps for or have accounts at and content broken apart between Steam, Stardock/Impulse, Origin, Direct2Drive, whatever else, *and* GOG on top of that.

All games need to be provided to all distributors and they need to be movable. Until that happens, none of these are "solutions". I need to buy all of EA's games on Steam and GOG and Impulse; not just on Origin. And I need to be able to say "I like GOG's offerings better, so I'm going to move all of my purchased Steam games over to GOG". I can do it with a cell number. I can do it with every other piece of software I own when I move to a different machine. I should be able to do it with games.

Anyway, I'll keep buying old DRM-free retro stuff on GOG. I already have about 210 games here, anyway. But it's not going to be my "new Steam", because I don't want the hassle of multiple services and I'm probably going to break the 1,000 game mark on Steam this year.

As a matter of fact, I have, and I did see. Did you not understand what I wrote in my previous postings?
