cogadh: They are in the process of re-casting the role of Spartacus for the next season of the show, which is currently scheduled to begin filming in the late summer/fall of this year.

orcishgamer: Then we'll be waiting a good year for the next episode. My attention span is way too short, I'll likely forget about this show in a month or two.
Spartacus was recast a while ago. Liam McIntyre will be replacing Whitfield and the second season is expected to premiere in 2012. Not too long of a wait considering season 1 and GotA didn't start until January this year and last. I'm a bit disappointed though that GotA was so short. I'm hoping Gannicus makes an appearance in season 2. Maybe help out with the rebellion.

orcishgamer: Now that they're done with their prequel will they continue with the show since the main actor will most likely not be able to work anymore due to illness?

I didn't find the prequel too bad, except that the first episode went to great lengths to make all the actors look younger only to not really giving a crap in the subsequent episodes.

As well, Crixus mentions that his love interest was just recently come into womanhood so he took notice of her. In the prequel she's already grown, which is annoying.

Also, I liked Gannicus as a character, too bad we won't get any more of him.

I have yet to watch the final episode of the prequel.
Umm, (Spoilers for season 2/Spartacus).

Gannicus actually we will see again. He becomes a general in Spartacus army.
I actually was not disappointed by the prequel. I thought the last episode tied it up nicely.

*SPOILER*

And I liked they didn't get rid of Gannicus by killing him, so we can see more of him later. I think whoever that actor is portrays a far more compelling character than Crixus.

They actually managed to not screw up that flashforward scene to the end of season 1, as well, which I find amazing as that kind of thing almost always comes off cheesy.
RIP Andy Whitfield.
Damn... Knew it was bad when he had to be replaced permanently, but I was still hoping he'd beat it. Hope his friends and family are doing alright under the circumstance.
Already watched and finished it, plus Gods of The Arena
I was skeptical about watching it at first since i'm not a fan of violent programs or sex scenes but after it did i thought it was a very good TV Series.

My only problem with it was that it did have too much sex, i had it recorded on sky+ so just fastforwarded through all the sex scenes i mean come on if people want to see sex that much they have the internet, also it's very awkward when family members walk in and i'm watching sex scenes on the TV.

Apart from that not a lot wrong with it, i especially liked the storytelling aswell as the actors (R.I.P Andy Whitfield) overall i liked both Blood and Sand and Gods of the Arena and am really looking forward to the Second Season.

Must I watch the prequel first or season 1, which one is better?

Cambrey: RIP Andy Whitfield.
Strange coincidence, yesterday was the first time since watching the prequel that I thought of Spartacus and decided to see if there was any info about the coming season floating about the net, and the first thing I see is Andy had died O_o

The prequel starts with clips of the original series key moments (ending, death of several chars) if you keep your eyes and ears away from the show for the first minute and a half, you can watch them prequel>original. I dont think it shows any footage of the original season afterwards.

Holy hot damn. Just... wow. And he was gaining momentum after Season 1 too :(

At least he pulled through Season 1, which was, in essence, the magnum opus of his acting career. What a legacy. Anyone would be proud of that.

Go with Season 1 first. I lost interest halfway while watching Gods of the Arena. It's not that it's bad, but it just doesn't match up to Season 1 IMO.

So sad to hear about Andy, I knew he wasn't going to return to the show, but hoped that he could somehow beat the cancer. Our thoughts are with his wife and two little girls... RIP Andy.
