tomimt: It helped Ogre a lot, that the tier where you actually got the game was 100 dollars. It has notably less backers than SpaceVenture.

orcishgamer: Well, if you're selling a "huge box of stuff" you can't hand it out for 15 USD. OGRE is also kind of a bad example in retrospect, given the way SJG did his swag stuff, you donated extra to essentially buy extra tshirts and stuff, a lot of people came back last minute and some nearly doubled their pledges (but, really, how COULD I turn down a polo shirt with an OGRE embroidered on it???).
As someone who has been studying Kickstarter projects for several months now, I found OGRE to be a completely crazy project, but one that was fascinating to watch.

orcishgamer: OGRE was fairly unique, even for KS projects. I have to say, I played OGRE growing up and that project and Steve's enthusiasm both pushed all the right buttons (not that I think he was operating a scam or anything). I hesitate to say how much I actually ended up pledging but it was higher than any other KS I've done.
Yeah, the average pledge was something like $72.50. Crazy high average for a gaming product.

orcishgamer: Actually, it closed with an average of 167 USD (and change) per pledge. So it was even crazier than you thought:)
Ah. I guess I'm remembering the numbers I pulled before it closed. Utter madness, really. :P

orcishgamer: Yeah, even moreso when you consider they asked for 20,000 USD and got 923,680 USD...
Oh, yeah. I know about that one. It's a fantastic example of how setting stretch goals--and then setting even higher ones--works on KS. Like I said: a fascinating look at incentivizing backers to give. And, I think, the most overfunded KS to date?
