I purchased this game when I saw a thread here showing it for like $3 or something (can't remember now, but it was dirt cheap IIRC).

But man, I am overwhelmed. First of all, NO MANUAL.

It's got a sort of a Final Fantasy feel to the combat, but I'm still not sure. I've played now over an hour and don't really know what I'm doing at all. I just find myself hitting buttons with no clue as to what they're doing. As you know, there is simply no way one can ever enjoy a game like that, no matter how good the story may be.

What do you guys think of this game?? Can you give any pointers on how I might understand what I'm doing better (besides growing a brain, a little late for that)? There is so much happening on the screen at the same time during a battle it's overwhelming to my old brain.
In my opinion the game suffers from the fact it punishes you for exploring. If you get your battle rank too high then the bosses become unbeatable. I ended up using a trainer when I met that hell boss as it could just wipe me out with one hit.

It seems other people invested more time in learning the combat tactics etc. However for me it was a disapointment.

I really liked it. I reached a point where I got stuck and then I lost the discs, but when I played it, other than the texture pop-in every now and then on the 360 version, I thought it was a great game. The combat was especially fun for me, even with the quick-time events. I actually thought that they added to it.

I think most of all, I really liked the large scale, dramatic feeling to combat.
Wanted to enjoy it , but I couldn't get a controller to work properly with it :(
errrm....how can put this polietly ........I didn't enjoy it :(

the whole game seemed a mess to me, and the graphics werenot great considering game size. That being said I may give it another go in the future.....
I liked all about it, except from the punishing difficulty. The leveling system is ridiculous, the more you level up, the more the enemies level up.

Played it on 360 at release, I thought it was great, the PC version is supposed to be the best version though, hope you get into it :)
I didn't really get too far into it, because it's just painful to play it without controllers, so I can't say anything about gameplay.
What I can say that scaling is terrible, and as my computer can't run it in full HD, I'm looking at tearing and teared edges most of the time. I'll most likely give it a go as soon as I get controller, as I'm running out of games to play, both bought and gotten from...alternative sources.
It's pretty good, but as another poster said, the leveling system is broken, instead of being rewarded for going out of your way to do sidequests and get exp, you get punished by having latter enemies have more hit-points.
Heh, well, somehow my response disappeared from thin air, I'll try again.

Thank you all very much for the responses. It does sound like a game I could get into.

Two things.... I use an X-Box 360 Controller for Windows, and it worked flawlessly from the get go, just plugged it my USB port and boom, no adjusting, no mapping, nothing. So for those that had controller troubles maybe you could try an X-Box 360 Controller for Windows??

Number two.... I still do not understand combat AL ALL. How do you do combat in this game? Usually I don't like to use walkthroughs, but maybe that's the only way I'll understand combat with this one???? For some reason it "feels" like the one and only Final Fantasy I ever played (7 I think). Was that one turn based combat??? LOL, I can't even tell on this game whether it's turn based or real time as I just keep mashing buttons and not knowing what I'm doing.

No manual at all, and I just don't get it. I know most folks don't ever read the manual, but some of us do. I am one of those that reads the whole manual, front to back, BEFORE I ever play a game. And it was bad enough when they started only giving you an electronic manual so I couldn't take it into the, errrm, reading room, and read it. Now this one has no manual AT ALL.

It's a Steam game, and on all my other Steam games if I right click on the game a bunch of options come up, and one is "View player manual" or something like that. On this game, that option doesn't show. Why would they make a game so complex (I see from this thread I'm not the only one having trouble with it' complexity) with no manual???

For those that played FF VII and this game, do you think this game feels sort of like that one?? I don't know why, but for some reason every time I'm playing, I get reminded of Final Fantasy VII.

I know this, the game just "looks cool" if that makes sense. It really does look neat to me, so I guess I may have to break down and read the walkthrough on this one since it does look so neat and I do want to try and get into it. THANK YOU to the post above who posted the link to the walkthrough. Still, I wish there was another way to learn combat;.

Oh man, THANK YOU. I just assumed they didn't make one since it didn't come with one. Sorry, guess one really shouldn't assume.

But THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Gonna print it out right now.
